I see a lot of comments going up about which is the better hockey nation at this point. We'll see how the last game goes for best-on-best, but what about depth? If you were to put together a second Canadian and a second American team composed of players not already selected, what would your teams look like? Who do you think wins?
1. The line combos are arbitrary. Just looking to see the quality talent left out of the tourney.
2. I'm guessing I overlooked a few as well.
Canada
Barzal - Scheifele - Hyman
Wilson - Suzuki - Lafreniere
Thomas - Strome - Kyrou
Celebrini - Bedard - Verhaege
Tavares, Duchene
Bouchard - Weegar
Dobson - Hamilton
Chychrun - Tanev
Dunn
L. Thompson
Kuempar
Blackwood
USA
Kane - T. Thompson - Caufield
Boeser - Keller - Robertson
DeBrincat - Cooley - Tuch
Zegras - Beniers - Knies
Carlson - Sanderson**
Hanifin - Jones
L. Hughes - Skjei
McDonagh
Demko
Stolarz
Wolf
** I know Sanderson is on the roster, but he's a replacement for Q. Hughes who would be on their first team.
I think Canada has a pretty significant edge when it comes to the forward group. There's a lot of skill that couldn't make the roster. The defence and goaltending seems to be pretty close (though the goaltenders should all be on Team A, and Team A should be here). I'd give the edge to Canada, but not by a tremendous margin. Certainly not as large as I initially thought.
