This answer surprised me.

Why should the CHL move their schedule? Wouldn't it be easier for the IIHF to move their tournament?

The U20s are kids, and while a fun and awesome tournament it's still below the professional level.

Plus we've never ever won

1960 was the Olympic win wasn't it?

Yes the iihf used to not have worlds during Olympic years. They just declared the Olympic winner the worlds winner.

The 1933 was indeed a world win for the US even if it was in a different world of two local amateur teams playing.

I think, back then, the Olympics were held in lieu of the World Championships every 4 years. Like the women are today. Someone might be able to confirm.

Checked on wikipedia and it looks like you were right!

So, they've won the WHC's in 1933, if it counts as it was so long ago.

That's the way it should be now - assuming the pro's keep going to the Olympics.

I'm always right, buddy. But, just like you today, sometimes it takes posters a little while to realize it. (smile/wink)

2015 WJHC is going to be an absolutely amazing. Can't wait. There is no better cities (arenas) for such a tourney on the world...

Absolutely. I think it has the chance to be the most successful WJHC of all-time. It will be hosted in two of Canada's biggest cities, and that will make a big difference in the bottom line.

The profits will be obscene and that's not a good thing.

Ya, I really wish HC would dial back the gross commercialization of our beloved event...I don't mind them making a buck or two...but it's been getting way out of hand.

If they use the money appropriately it's a great thing for hockey in Canada. That's a big if though, but there is nothing inherently wrong with them making lots of money for putting on a tremendously popular tournament.

Yeah I have no problem with u20 tournaments in buffalo or Detroit. Give us all your Canadian dollars. It's like when Mexico plays friendly games in the US. We will take all your money!

I would like to see an all outdoor World Juniors. Maybe in Edmonton or Northern BC. Perhaps every game would not be doable but... maybe... one or two games per day. If the weather cooperated, it would be a lot of fun.

Ya sure...like this ridiculous summer long cross-country 100 anniversary tour...what nonsense.

The commercial aspect of the jr. tournament should be scaled back just a bit and, we can do without the "boy aren't we great summer long jerk-off show"

As I said before, we've been celebrating 100 years of hockey in this country since 2008 and will be for another 2 years... enough is enough of this nonsense.

I agree. The small areas of Canada will never see this tournament again and that's sad.

Agreed. I like seeing the non-NHL markets get to host the WJC. After all, they're the ones who support the U-20s at the CHL level.

Early on it was left to the CHL markets to host for Canada...

1986 - Hamilton
1991 - Saksatoon
1995 - Red Deer (with a Canada game in Calgary and Edmonton)
1999 - Winnipeg
2003 - Halifax

Then comes a very noticable shift to the bigger markets...

2006 - Vancouver
2009 - Ottawa
2010 - Saskatoon (the lone exception)
2012 - Edmonton/Calgary
2015 - Toronto/Montreal
2016 - Montreal/Toronto

It's a shame.

A friend of mine went to the one in Hamilton. He said 2 tickets for every game went for < $100 - don't quote me; I don't remember the exact amount, I just know it was low. When I went to the games in Buffalo, it set me back $1260. To go to the equivalent number of games in Toronto would cost you your soul. It's nuts. I know the money goes to Hockey Canada but...

The World Juniors will never go back to a small market (unfortunately :( ), because as much as it taints the game, most people only look at Hockey as a business. The WJC will be played in Canada every second year for the forseeable future, so during the "on" years Canada does host the tournament, there's going to be the desire to soak up every dollar they can

Canada has defeated Sweden at every single level so far in 2014 from the Olympics to the Worlds to the Ivan Hlinka..
