As long as Canada continues to play THEIR own game for the whole 60 minutes by finishing their checks at every opportunity and playing the way that they can, I am confident of their chances against Russia.

You saw flashes of the team coming together today. They just need to keep steady and not get flustered when they hit bumps on the road.

It's not a battle of skills but a battle of wills. Sacrifice your bodies and leave it ALL out on the ice! Come home proud!

WHATEVER IT TAKES BOYS! GO GET'EM CANADA!!!

David I figured with the Ovechkin reply this would turn into a thread of random posts but hey, even an athiest like me would pray if i though it would help Canada win. Go Canada!

I think they will too, they need MB to play a whale of a game again, we all have seen what can happen if you're relentless on Russians with the physical play, it drives them crazy.

Actually, Ovechkin was drafted in 03, not in 04.

:biglaugh:

Sorry Canadiens, I think Russia's dominant youngsters and highly skilled vets will be too much for Canada's defense. I think team Quinn will have to outscore them.

Sorry Americans, I know that Russia's dominant youngsters and their highly skilled vets have been known to go AWOL when going gets tough. :teach:

Who knows what will happen but I like our chances!!!

Besides, that Brad Richards was showing flashes of his Conn Smythe form today against the Czechs. He's got the perfect game for this big ice. I wouldn't be at all surprised if he turns it up a notch tomorrow.

GO CANADA GO!

I've go to hand it to you dave, you are quite the optimist. I don't see how in the world canada will win the gold or let alone beat the powerful offensive force of the russians. Nevertheless it's always good to be optimistic I guess, but I just don't see it. Too many flaws in Canada's defence.

Why are you addressing the NHL team from Montreal?

After watching the USA play Russia today, I have confidence that if Canada plays their game for AT LEAST 40 minutes, they'll pull it off.

Canda will be fine as long as they are physical. They've got to punish the Russians and slow them down.

Broduer is going to have to outplay Nabokov.

They can't start trying to go "end-to-end" with Russia or they'll be flying home. I'm surprised people are so down on Canada. They're going to pull it off, they always seem to when it really counts.

It's too tough to call. Depends on Nabokov. Depends if Canada "feels like" playing. Depends if the defense feels like skating. Depends on the Canadian offense. Depends on overall chemistry. But, regardless, you can count on the Russian offense showing up. It seems to me that there are too many if's for the Canadians to win. My guess is that Russia takes this one home in an upset.

Would it really be an upset?

I mean, Canada has a reputation that they haven't lived up to, does that still make them favourites? I think Russia beating them would be along the lines of par for the course, rather than an upset.

You took the words right out of my mouth.

this is the dream match-up!

Team Canada's won 1 period in the last 9. 3 goals against one pulled goalie, and zero goals against 3 others. meanwhile, Russia's popped in 15 during that same time. maybe canada can do what they haven't for 8 out of 9 periods . . . and maybe pigs will fly.

Really??? I thought if we just made a smirnoff and sardine trail to the airport we'd win by default :sarcasm:

Wow, you've learned a lot from post-game interviews and press conferences.
