USA has caught up in forwards and defence which wasn't the case 15 years ago. The two teams are basically equal but America has a Hall of Fame goaltender and Canada has a guy. It is great hockey to watch. You struggle to find mistakes (except for Marner). Every player is elite and they are cancelling each other out. Great offense is being stymied by great defense.

I feel we should exclude the Nordic countries (sorry) and just have a best of 5 series between Canada and US.
From a fan perspective, I don't think I'd want to see that, it was pretty much just two teams stifling each other and clogging everything up, so that exciting moments like the Larkin goal or McDavid bursts are so few and far between. While that would lead to success, from a purely entertainment value perspective I'd want what the Swedes and Finns had, not a pentagonal box with 5 sticks acting like bumpers to sweep everything away from the mouth of the crease all the way out to the blueline.

Also kudos to the US, not many other teams can repeatedly funnel the Canadian attack to isolated short rushes leading to the side boards and chip-in's like they did today. Hope we get a chance to exact revenge in the finals.

The biggest game and the most crucial moments of it, it was Brock Faber being sent out repeatedly along with Slavin.Faber, the youngest player for Team USA, had over 25mins of ice time, notched an assist by springing Larkin and was a +3 in a game where his team scored only 3 goals.

Not enough can be said about how this kid plays under pressure.

McAvoy was on the ice for 6 minutes fewer.

TB line shut down the Tkachuk line, did their job. US goals were the direct result of self inflicted wounds by Canada. One was a nothing shot that should never go in, and the other a horrible turnover by Crosby which leads to the goal off the rush where you wouldn't mind a save there either, although a good shot.

It might sting Canada now, but they should be optimistic in a rematch IF they get by Finland. They handed the US their goals on a silver platter and you have to think the star power will be more prominent next time around.

Hellebuyck is the X factor, and the only real concern I have for Canada is in net.
That's a big concern if worried about goalie .The USA D won alot of puck battles.

Faber is indeed amazing one of my favorite dmen in the league.

The cost is not an issue, yes it's expensive but having a larger pool isn't going to change anything at a best on best tournament. You'll get a few more Arber Xhekaj's, but any top player is coming from at minimum a middle-class family who was able to put their kids into a bunch of camps/academys/training/etc.

The cost isn’t an issue? Are you insane?

I think we've finally arrived at the point where Canada has an equal (arguably a better) in hockey.

When you analyze the rosters on paper and then even watch that game, there isn't really an edge for Canada. It always existed in the past, but the last 2-3 years the USA has closed the gap. The USA won that game because their defensemen and forwards were better defensively, the USA was more physical, they were probably faster overall with team speed outside of the few fastest players (I still say no one can keep up with McDavid and MacKinnon speed), and it seemed like the USA won most of the draws (I didn't look at the numbers, so feel free to correct that). We knew they'd have the better goaltending also.

Canada wasn't able to create much. Yes, Canada has the better top end forwards, but what we all knew that the USA is more balanced and is probably better 1-19 that took the ice proved true. The Canadians have some holes that they will need to fix in the upcoming years. We'll see what happens, but I think the USA is a small favorite right now in best on best. They had the better roster coming in and they looked better in their first two games (including a head to head victory).

I know people want to complain about players that were missing, but I find it to ring very hollow. Both teams had guys missing. Do people really think any guy who has to step in is some bad player? They're all NHL all stars. Absences are what they are. USA simply has shown what we all knew that they had better depth to fill in the holes of the absences.

Great hockey game. Probably the best hockey game I've ever seen when it comes to pace and intensity. Don't want to play Canada again, and Canadians should take that as a compliment. I'll take my bragging rights for now. I feel a lot more confident in beating Sweden or Finland than Canada (obviously).

Hockey is an incredibly expensive sport, in a country that’s incredibly expensive to live in.

Hockey Canada has some issues of its own, which can very easily be seen with the world junior selection committee.

Either way, it’s beautiful hockey to watch. Best on best.

Count me as one that would love to have Russia back sooner than later, think the games would be even better.

Yeah, I'm from Canada but I wouldn't blame binnington. Mackinnon wasn't good enough, as well as a lot of other players.

With that said, I see no way canada loses to finland. I see a finals of canada and usa and it's extremely hard to beat the same team twice in the same tournament.

With that said, has USA over taken Canada as the best hockey country? It's a lot closer than I'd like to admit - I'll say that much.
I’m sorry you’ve fallen into the lazy media trap. Statistically, if you beat a team once, you’re more than likely to beat them a second time. In no way is it “extremely hard”, the talking heads have fooled you.

Canada has the better team, they just currently don’t have a hall of fame goalie for the first time in forever.
I disagree.USA is more balanced and can play it anyway you want .Canada scored 1 goal and definitely were on wrong end of the big hits. Now that does not mean they cannot bounce back and win this but at this moment I am not sold.

Boldy had the primary assist on Larkin's goal (unless you meant the EN goal), after Crosby had made a perfect pass to Boldy.

Agree totally that Faber was outstanding. Night and day difference from his nervous performance against Finland.
