I mean, he's been better than Bennett, Hagel and Cirelli with the least playing time per game and only having played 2 games being scratched last game. 6th in points per game for Canada in "this entire tournament." You're probably right though that he shouldn't have been on the team with Cooper as coach as Cooper has no interest in giving him any opportunities

In the U.S thread there is no longer any talk of the team they have and the game on thursday, they are just talking about how Quinn should be there, they are just as ready to throw Sanderson under the bus as their coaching and management staff is, why I don't know...................they will still have a great d-core with
Sanderson in and no Hughes.

They are starting to get nervous and taking their eye off the ball. I do understand their nervousness though, things seem to be unravelling slowly on the U.S side.

As a conversation , the local conversations I had two weeks ago were Ho hum on this tourney.
Nobody expected the hype and I would suggest the league general managers are going to watch with their eyes closed. Question, is this format ever going to be repeated. Great for North America but isn’t lord Stanley the holy grail. Doesn’t seem anybody cares about that now and how this affects the teams like the Bruins clinging to playoff life.

Well, the Stanley Cup isn't the holy grail down there, the fact is the U.S is not a hockey country, no surprise that the final of this game gets good ratings because it involves the good old U.SA, and even better if they are playing someone that is their rival that they have not ever been able to dominate and has owned them..........something they can't abide in much like everything else, they have to have that to get great hockey ratings But winning this won't make America a hockey country, the Stanley cup final won't ever have some big buzz must watch T.V vibe to it like their actual popular sports there.Hockey is only a major thing there if the country can get to brag about it. It's hard to make them get into a game and league when they wake up in the morning with a big pigskin match on Sunday in their brains. The vast majority of the U.S population doesn't even have the inclination to give the sport a real shot.


It's got to be national domination or bust, and when/if they do win they just go back to to basketball, football and baseball within a week.

I did 10 km.

6 in my OLD shoes. 4 in my NEW shoes to break them in - last time I wore my news shoes for the full 10 km and they chewed up my feet.

If they want to fly Hughes 5 hours across the country and drop one of their current D-Men to put him in the lineup (and screw up their chemistry), go for it.

Oh, I have no issues with Jarvis being scratched honestly, Canada has a lot of options that I have no issues with being in over Jarvis. I do think Cooper is overslotting his Tampa guys though and my last post was mainly just taking issue with that other poster singling Jarvis out as “having done nothing all tournament” which is a silly claim considering it’s been 2 games with little playing time (as if that’s a sample size anyone can read into whatsoever) and production wise he did more in those 2 games than others on Canada’s roster. But yeah from a perspective of who are Canada’s 12 best forwards in general right now, a case can be made for Jarvis either way and I am not upset or offended by him not being one of the 12.

Our own certain person was at the previous USA-Canada game. I think that's where he's coming from. It would also raise the profile of the game.

Regarding your point on the Tampa players, I think you need to look at Point separately from Hagel and Cirelli. Other than MacKinnon, Point is really the one guy on the roster who can hang with McDavid in terms of speed, and likely has the requisite skill to complement him as well. If anything, Point was under-utilized in the first few games, and was well-deserving of his "promotion" up to the McDavid line. That's where he belongs - on McDavid's or MacKinnon's wing, in a scoring role.

I've seen enough of Cirelli to think that he is in over his head at this level of competition. He's a great puck hound and PKer, but isn't skilled enough offensively to produce at a tournament such as this. He's also weak on the faceoff dot. For a defensive centre, we (Canada) need someone better at that aspect of the game and ideally that defensive centre would be offensively gifted enough to not only shut-down the opposition's best lines, but also contribute offensively, Cirelli is a black-hole offensively, so when he's on the ice we seem to be in the mindset of defending, not attacking. Alas, Canada does not seem to have a Jonathan Toews at their disposal at this point in the cycle.

Hagel is between the two, I think. I like what I've seen out of Hagel. I think he belongs; maybe not in an important role on this team or on the 2026 team, but a supporting/depth role would be fine for him. He's a very good player. I think he'd be more productive at this tournament if he wasn't attached to Cirelli's hip throughout.

I agree that Cooper rode Cirelli and Hagel a little too hard early in the tournament. The ice times seemed to be better distributed in the Finland game, but I'd still like to see Cirelli and Hagel more at the 10-12 minute level.

As for Jarvis, I would have liked to have seen more of him, but I can't see Cooper scratch Konecny for the final. If that's the case, then I agree with Cooper on that call. Konecny and Bennett play a more rugged, in-your-face style of game more suitable against this U.S. team. This is such a short tournament and there isn't many games or much opportunity to shuffle players in and out depending on the opposition. Obviously Jarvis made the subtle but high-skilled pass on the Marchand goal in the Sweden game. He played a clean game. I actually think Jarvis and Hagel on the wings of a more offensively-competent, 200 foot centre (say, Robert Thomas) could have been a really good line for us. In the end, a forward needs to be scratched. I don't think there is really any shame in that for Jarvis. Jarvis acquitted himself very well in limited ice time and probably solidified a spot for himself on the 2026 Olympic team.
