World Cup: Canada 4 Nations Tournament 2025 Roster Talk

How short of a leash should Binner be on with the starting gig?

2 out of 3 of tonight’s goals didn’t look particularly strong. The 3rd goal would have been tough to stop, but he seemed way out of position to make the save considering JEE fumbled it before shooting.

Not sure if they just want to keep everything together in hopes of building chemistry as they go but if they do decide to change the lines I'd go with:

Crosby - MacKinnon - Stone
Bennett - McDavid - Jarvis
Marchand - Point - Marner
Hagel - Cirelli - Reinhart

I’d start hill on sat. He does well, you stick with him. He doesn’t, go back to binner. The problem with going with binner on sat, if he stinks and they lose, now you have to throw a cold hill in a must win.

...imo, Konecny's gotta be in there; guy drives the net and that's what McJesus' line needs...

Crosby - MacK - Stone
Konecny - McJesus - Reinhart
Marchand - Point - Marner
Hagel - Cirelli - Jarvis

...if Bennett gets in, it might have to be for Cirelli, imo...

Cirelli will never come out of the lineup, Cooper loves him. I don’t think Bennett sees a game unless we beat the States and he draws in against Finland to get a different look

Konency was awful. Probably the 2nd worst player on the ice after Nylander.

If this was an NHL team he would come out for the 13th forward next game and I don't think it should be much different here. Bennett is no slouch.

Bennett was brought to play physical against the Americans. Be shocked if he didnt play Saturday.

...no, he was miscast...as were a few other Team Canada forwards, which is why things looked discombobulated on every line but the Crosby line...Marner was horrid for almost the entire game; in fact, that entire 2nd line was bad...McJesus' line needs a netdriving presence and that's what Konecny does...Marner's elite passing skills would compliment Marchand & Point...Hagel - Cirelli/Bennett - Jarvis has skill, grit, and defensive awareness...my take, anyways...

Think Marner needs to be moved, I guess the question is who plays with McDavid, thought Canadas second line was their best followed by their third line actually. Thought Marner played really poor up until the OT goal and the play died on his stick and he didn't play well with McDavid. Hopefully they can figure it out at practice and have Marner be less of a puck mover and defer more to McDavid and let him drive possession.

1st line felt like Crosby-MacKinnon-Stone today.

I really don't know why Parayko was picked over Weegar... Haven't watched Sanheim this year so idk but I'm more concerned about the right side.

Thought Konecny had a poor game.

I think the third line has potential to get some more good looks and I thought Marchand looked decent. Hagel on the 3rd line maybe an option?

Maybe controversial but I'd lean on Toews-Makar pretty heavy, they do it in the NHL and I don't think it's really much of a risk to have the top pair eat up minutes. I'd probably also lean on the top 6 when possible and maybe let the 3rd line have more of a role compared to the 4th. In best on best tournaments I know coaches like to try distribute ice time a bit more equally but the top 6 is so good and the 3rd line can get it done in my opinion.

Konency being bad had nothing to do with linemates or lack of chemistry, he was simply a liability.

Reinhart is a better example of a player who wasn't bad but just didn't mesh with his line.

Disagree, hes another gritty forward for Canada. Honestly I am not sure who you take it. Before overtime the answer might of been Marner. But you arent scratching him now.
Bennett is arguably the grittiest player on the roster.

Yeah Konency can play that role too but if you're out of your depth it doesn't matter how physical you are.

And none of Canada's players outside of maybe Marner are going to be pushed out of the play by America's physicality. But like you said Marner isn't going to be sat. He was poorly utilized in this game anyway, he should be the creator on a bottom-6 line.

I liked Jarvis more than I liked Konecny. Hagel was great on the forecheck, Stone scored, same with Marchand. And I thought Marchand was good. Konecny is really the only option, and I love Konecny

If that McDavid line can get some cohesion, look out, the Crosby line has instant chemistry. Marner was lost despite the goal, McDavid was underwhelming despite some patented rushes, but that line needs to do a better job of mainting o-zone time.
I agree. The first line was flat but imagine if they click - they have 3 more games to make it work.

First goal was unstoppable.

The second goal can NOT go in.

On the 3rd goal, the D was as much at fault as Binnington - the play was a mess.

Let Hill play against the U.S..

P.S. Should have brought Thompson.

At this point, I’d consider Canada lucky to get it to overtime for atleast a point. Surely they should be able to beat the Finn’s…

I never wanted Marner but he came thru in O.T..

I never understood putting Marner with McDavid - you want scorers on McDavid's wings and Marner is NOT that.

Jarvis is a gem and will be on BoB Team Canada for the next decade.

I think the Leafs should change their jersey color from white/blue to white/red. Marner would be clutch in the playoffs if that happened.

It’s not the jersey Color, it’s the leadership. The leadership in Toronto is pathetic if you ask me. Where as team Canada has winners and natural leaders.

Marner literally played the 2nd most minutes in the game among Canada forwards. Going from there to healthy scratch is a pretty big leap.
