I think Robert Thomas is a better player than Glass and should be ahead of him on the depth chart. Thomas is a top 6 center on this team and Glass is more of a bubble player but should make it on if he shows growth from the SSS. There it seemed the game was too fast for him.

Not going to lie, this roster doesn't inspire a lot of confidence. Also, the thought of having to watch Jake Bean again on the blueline will give me nightmares. This is coming from someone who goes to Hitmen games regularly.

You know I've seen Stanley play once or twice and I couldn't see what lots forum posters here say that he is bad.

For posters who have seen him play more than 2-3 times how is Stanley?

Thanks

Taking away my bias.

His lateral movement leaves a lot to be desired. When the game speeds up he has a hard time defending the edge. He isn’t the worst offensively (and his shot and hands aren’t terrible) but he has minimal hockey sense which hurts his game a lot.

Basically, IMO, he’s a big defence man that’s had a lot of his deficiencies masked because he’s 6’7. At this point, he looks more like a fringe bottom pair player in the NHL.

Here’s what Pronman said about him in the summer:

Let's see how Glass does in the camp. He's a high pick doing a lot of scoring this year, and he can play the wing. His teammate Bellows, who he is outscoring by more than 20% this year, is locked into most people's top six for the American team. If he does well in camp then Hockey Canada shouldn't overthink it.

Most exciting special this holiday season.

I expect him to make the team so I am trying to be optimistic but... yes. It might be rough. Best case scenario is probably that he plays as well as Morin did on the bottom pairing in 2015. Worst case maybe Cowen in 2011.

I think this team might surprise us all. It will have a lot of depth but not a lot of players that you would call big stars. Maybe later on but not now and I think that is a good thing. Solid right through the lineup.

The bonus for Canada is they are potentially bringing two of the hottest goalies coming into the WJC in Carter Hart and Colton Point so that will hopefully make a difference when it matters.

Canada doesn't normally have a depth problem.

I truly believe that Mete will be going to the WJC...as he is playing less and less ...i think the management is trying to drag out that 40 game thingy....and the WJC will give them an extra 2 weeks....if management doesnt let him its another fcup in a long list of fcups for this management and this owner group

With McKenzie's latest tweet that Fabbro, Clague, Bean, and Mete will form the core top-4 unit for Canada, I wonder what it means for prospects like Makar and Timmins. Based on those comments, Timmins probably does not make the roster, and I wonder if Makar has much of role, although Makar had a big role and looked great IMO at the Summer Showcase.

I am not impressed with Canada's top-4 if they are giving most of the minutes to Fabbro-Clague-Bean-Mete.

From what I've seen/heard Avs brass was ok with sending Jost but it was up to him and he didnt want to(maybe something changes). As for defense I'm very worried HC will screw the defense up like with the forwards. Hoping for

Mete-Foote
Clague-Makar
Bean-Fabbro
Mahura

With Mete back, who do you guys have making it between Makar, Timmins, Cholowski, Mahura and Foote? Should be 3 of those 5 making it.

I think Makar has the inside edge because of draft position. But hes also an NCAA guy and 18 year old. He only has one goal this year and was a bit of a wild card being drafted out of that league. With Mete back and Bean being taken as more of an offensive specialist, I dunno if Makar is a guarantee for PP/the big offensive minutes either. I personally dont think he should be a lock but I think he ends up making it and starting in the line up.

Timmins I probably know the least about. Hes productive and kinda physical from what I've seen. No history with Canada. Hes a wild card for me. Seems like he could be a good bottom pair/ 7th guy because he can play several roles if someone goes down.

Cholowski I'm biased towards as a wings fan. Played one year in the NCAA on a bad team where he wasnt productive definitely hurts his chances. But now hes looked really good in an NHL camp and in the WHL. His numbers arent huge but his team is garbage and hes one assist off from leading in points per game while scoring isnt really his strong point. One aspect I like is that his game is virtually penalty free which is good in a short tourney where special teams counts. I could see him as a bottom pairing guy/7th because hes versatile and penalty free. Has hgiher draft pedigree than the rest as well.

Mahura is a guy that I see getting cut. Doesnt have the draft pedigree the others do. His offensive game is good but not enough to knock off 3 or 4 others for offensive mins. He hasnt impressed me as much as others when I've seen them, but Ialso havent seen all of them a lot which is why I'm putting this question out there.

Foote I see making it because he brings somesize to the back end. His size may get overatedat times because he doesnt use it a tonne but in a tournament like this it will be enough to knock some other junior aged guys around if a game gets rough. Hes a young guy but I think hockey canada likes him. I will say that I thought he didnt look particularly good at the super series which may hurt him. I dont think Stanley will make it but Foote will because of size being needed. Cholowki looked much better to me (biased though) in the super series but he doesnt have the size of Foote so could go either way.

So I guess I can see arguments for 4 of the 5 making it but havent seen a lot of Mahura. Looks like it may really just be a battle at camp to see who it is. Stanley could be a big physical presence on the team, but I think he'll get roasted one too many times at camp to bring to the tourney. I also think at his size, any physical play will result in penalties, and his foot speed will probably result in them as well. I could obviously be wrong but I dont see much of a role for him on the team

Just a quick note from your post is that Makar, Foote and Timmins are all late 98s, no one is 18 still. So we won't have a single returning defensman next year

If I were Canada on D, I'd go:
Mete-Timmins
Clague-Fabbro
Bean-Makar
Mahura

What I think Canada will do:
Clague-Mete
Bean-Fabbro
Stanley-Makar
Timmins

It's good to have Mete at the camp, he was pretty good at the camp last year. I'm interested in seeing how he plays after having limited ice time. I would guess that his inclusion is bad news for Cholowski or Mahura.

The D group doesn't exactly inspire confidence. The forward group should be pretty good though. Really hoping they include Glass. He's a guy I could see playing on any line. Smart player with a lot of tools. Even if he makes it as the extra forward I see him outplaying guys and being in the top 6 by tournaments end.
