Post-Game Talk: Can we leave Stu in a California Closet?

When did Connor not fist bump him? Tonight, or the last game of the season?
Last game of season. Skinner was wanting bumps from the whole team. As if he's some kind of star. McD comes up staring and turns it down. My take was Connor wasn't celebrating the bozo getting a shutout in a season he's been shit, and myself I thought it was revolting what Skinners disposition was there. Skinner was beaming as if he'd done some godly thing. I think Skinner was saying "See, see"

yeah we see alright.

Thing is they showed Skinner on bench tonight after the pull and nobody was coming up to him giving a pat. They did to Pickard.

Another thing I'll note when somebody touches Skinner nobody does anything. When Pickard gets bumped the troops come in for the scrum.

Team is done with Skinner from my take.

its about the only good thing that can come of this.

The ridiculous thing on here is the some posters actually believe that a different goale is going to make this team better on defence, better at creating offence, better with giving up passing lanes on the PK, better on the PP and have better discipline.

This team is losing in EVERY aspect of the game and goaltending isnt going to save that.

A new goalie might mask some of the other elements that this team is failing at but the reality is that this team is getting its ass handed to them in every way possible.

LA is vastly superior so far.

Ya I agree, and the end of the day its only one aspect of a bigger collective of problems happening. Defense was bad, special teams was bad.

That's going to expose average to below average goalies....

Eh, idk, I'm not sure that that stat really means much of anything.

But I hear what you're saying.
We are a bit weird like that.
When a team losing the first game they usually have a 38% win percentage for the series, we have a 62% win percentage. But when we lose the first 2 it’s like…10%

I will say - teams winning after being down 2-0 isn't exactly uncommon, happens atleast once every year.

I will also say - assuming Skinner is out - this team thrives on adversity and having their backs to the wall.
You have more faith and patience than I do man. They are older, and coming off injuries, and are having to run the top two into the ground just to try and catch up -- and it's failing. As usual, they have to get repeatedly punched in the face before they wake the f*** up. WHY? How come they can't start games, and series, ON TIME? Wtf is wrong with nearly every one in that F core? Entitled vets going through the motions. Even started the season getting caved in the season opener, yet again.

I mean what, having 18,000 people chant "We Want Skinner" isn't embarrassing enough? lol, this is one of the most obvious goaltending meltdowns in the sport.

Really though...there is just so much wrong with this team.
A goalie isnt going to change that much at all.

This team isn't close to a Stanley Cup contending team right now. That is so obvious.
Maybe we can find a team dumb enough to take Skinner and Bouchard off our hands this summer for a package of players that can actually play defense and stop a puck? The idea of locking up Bouchard long term for $10 mil/per with a NMC gives me sleepless nights!! :dunno:

Yes, I agree. But the goalie is the biggest weakness on the roster. He nearly gave away his first series vs LA, then pissed it away vs Vegas. Then he had to get bailed out by Pickard last year vs the Canucks.

Not an NHL calibre goalie.

They don't call the game "goalie" for nothing

The defence was ridiculously bad. So was the PK.
So many open passing lanes...so many players out of position.

Its a shit show and the offence sans McDavid isnt much better.
Kuemper didnt have to make a diffcult save the entire game.

Biggest coattail rider ever. At least Hyman attacks the net

Nuge is afraid he’ll chip a nail or something while wearing gloves
Yup. I personally did not want to sign him when he went to UFA. He is not a needle mover whatsoever. Over 80% of the time, he is just "there". We have too many guys like him.

Flashback to May 1984, the Oilers chase Billy Smith out of his net after a 6-2 goal and the Northlands crowd is ecstatically chanting “We want Billy! We Want Billy!”

You think Smith was skating back to the Islanders bench smiling and bopping his head to Van Halen’s Jump? Hell no, he was dejected af. Skinner’s attitude just bugs me, he’d be the guy smiling and laughing at a funeral. I get being a positive person but when you make a big UH OH the LAST thing you should be doing is smiling like you just clumsily dropped your drink at the club.

Yeah I got the sense that they quit on him around January February to be honest, but got tired of crowing on and on about it.

They visibly deflate when he lets in bad goals. Not sure how he stuck around since then, should be the kiss of death.

I think its a toss up between the goalie and the defence.

I mean right now the teams defence isnt even playoff caliber.

Been saying since his 2nd year
Nuge is not a C you can count on
f*** you can’t even count on him to be a decent winger either. His apologists will point to outlier season but this is one of the softest players on the team without an ounce of aggression.

Literally a clock in clock out player

...and Nurse...and a few other players.

I was arguing early in the season that this team was NOT better without McLeod, Foegele and Holloway.
I was also saying that they would be screwed on defence if Ekholm ever got hurt.

Here we are.

Like I said - he was 57th in save percentage. That means literally every team in the league had atleast one guy better than him, and 27 of 32 had two guys better than him.

Not exactly awe inspiring stats. Those are the kind of stats that should garner you a bus ride to the American League.

I mean, sure .... fine.
I respect that you feel that way.

WE were both in a difficult spot after TDL and management saying goaltending is set. I mean you cheer for the team but still while knowing the goaltending is horrible. We have basically a backup, if that, and thats it. its long been my take that I even question Skinner being an NHL goalie on his basic skillsets. he shouldn't even be here. Only reason he is being Woody and Schwartz. Woody still screwing us years later and of course Dustin still with a job..
