Can the Jets break the President’s Trophy curse?

Wasn't sure where to put this so I will put it here.
The athletic ranks the Jets as number 3 behind first place stars and 2nd place Florida.
Two good teams but we just kicked the stars 4-1 and it was nearly a shutout in a game the Stars just couldn't keep up.

All the power rankings seem to be rotating different teams in the top spot these days. My guess it's to keep more people engaged.

In my opinion, that means nothing - at all. The playoffs are a completely different game.
For example, LAST year, the Jets played Colorado three times.
Win 4-2
Win 6-2
Win 7-0
How did that regular season dominance translate into the playoffs?
Colorado won 4 of 5 games, Outscoring the Jets 28 - 15
I always prefer to think of the playoffs as a new season. Regular season games mean nothing come mid-April
Right forgot about Chibby being out. Yeah most important thing down the stretch is game management for the entire crew, seeing what we have in the system in case of injuries and hopefully in the meantime someone at the bottom pulls away from the pack so we can focus on who our 1st round matchup will be.
There is likely some merit to that. I think since the Expansion Era only 17 teams that have finished 1st place have won the Cup, 8 being since the Presidents Trophy was first awarded in 1986 and 2 in the cap era.
There are a lot of factors though. Cap introducing more parity which leads to less dynasties, divisional playoff format over 1-8 conference format means stronger teams can face tougher opponents earlier in the playoffs and just more teams in general making it a slog to even get to the playoffs.

The Cap and just how the NHL sets up the playoffs basically means the President's Trophy is worthless as far as bragging rights go and any relationship to the Stanley Cup. You could finish 1st overall in the league, and then have to play teams in the playoffs that are better teams then most of the other teams in the other conference.
If the NHL playoffs were setup 1-16 today, 9 of the teams are in the West and 7 teams are in the East.
The ONLY reason any team should even concern themselves with the President's Trophy would be if you just happen to accidently win it, because the team that wins it does get some money.
But like I said, win it by accident. The last thing I would want to see is the Jets playing Helly every game down the stretch just to win something that really means nothing. Once the Jets clinch 1st in the Conference or even the Division, they should look at resting guys like Helly.

17/55 (1968-2024, no Cup in 2004 due to lockout)? That's 31%, which is pretty good vs. the field.
And, I mean, the NHL schedule is imbalanced, injuries happen, teams hide guys on LTIR, good goalies and skaters can go hot or cold, the playoff bar has been raised from 16/21 to 16/32 teams which makes the playoffs tougher...
How certain can someone be that the #1 team in the standings at the end of the regular season is actually the best team?
I just care about winning the west to get a much more favorable 1st round matchup. Once that is secured rest whoever and if the Caps want the Presidents Cup then by all mean let them gun for it.

The same can be said about Lord Stanley. I will say if a team wins both, it makes a pretty strong case.
Why 1968? Serious question.
Also, you are talking about the Habs powerhouse dynasty, the Isles dynasty and the Oilers in the 80s.
To be fair, we should only take into consideration the years since the cap started.
4th overall is the place to finish boys!!!!!!!!!!

Keep playing like they did in Vancouver and the Jets won't have to worry about the President's Trophy at all.

Seems Washington may not be too concerned about the President's Trophy.
As the Washington Capitals finish up the regular season, coach Spencer Carbery plans to manage some of his top performers’ minutes and potentially sit some names for load management down the stretch in order to prepare for the Stanley Cup Playoffs. Carbery did say that load management will be a key in these final games, and that it’s also important for him to get his regular healthy scratches some games, too. The goal is to be prepared and well-rested for the playoffs
