Can the Habs Power Play be fixed?

The biggest thing is we’re missing the big shot from the point. Add that in and it generates rebound and defensive zone chaos for opposing teams.

Laine is great where he is and everyone is working to set him up - understandably so, he’s arguably the best PP guy in the league this year - but it’s one dimensional.

A shot from the point would make us so much more efficient at scoring because it causes rebounds that you can jump on.

Hutson’s shot isn’t great but it’s not terrible either. I wish he’d use it a little more. If there’s one thing he can work on in the offseason it’s his shot.

Hutson should be entering the zone more than Suzuki. Every time he does it, he sets it up way better than Suzuki can.
Suzuki is better at it than last year though. For whatever reason the play last year seemed to be - rush in with the puck and then pass it off right at the blueline on entry. That was horrible and resulted in all kinds of turnovers and offsides.

As for Hutson, yeah just let him do his thing. He’s incredible and great at creating open space. I’d absolutely be having him carry it in.

Too much forcing the puck to Laine and too often he is covered and can’t get a shot through, starting to look like the Weber days where we pigeoned hole ourselves into one option the whole league knew. Faster puck movement and more trigger options will make it harder to defend.
Demidov should add a different dimension next year. It’s gonna be really fun to watch.

Pointing to Demidov as the solution implies that there is no solution with the current roster.
I think we’re late in the year and you’re seeing what you’re going to see. I don’t think you’ll see major adjustments this year.

My hope is that next year Hutson’s back with a better shot and Demidov adds some creativity.

It is interesting though. I thought our PP was better than it is. Looked it up, saw we were 20th. Then started playing with dates. Since December then Jan, then since Feb… we’ve pretty consistently been around 20th Lmost all year. I thought we were better than that

I think it’s because of Laine’s absurd PP goal production that it seems like this

Then you realize nobody else scores on the PP lol

Well, Slaf needs to do something other than just hook passes to Caufield from the side of the net.

He HAS to walk out and shoot. He HAS to do it. If he's not going to do it, then you take him off the first unit.

It's too reliant on Laine which is making Caufield completely useless because he isn't in any position to use his own one timer.

Slaf never peels off of the side of the net to make himself open for a left shot one timer.

They don't have anyone who is actually good in the bumper on PP1 either.

Newhook should be back on PP1 to play the bumper spot. Bite the bullet and put Caufield on PP2 for now.
I’d try Suzuki in the bumper personally,

He moves there occasionally and I agree that's the best spot to get shots from. When they get the chances really close to net, Cole and Slaf have not been converting. They try to play tap ins

What a shit period of hockey. I hope Suzuki wakes up because he's coasting out there.
I don't think he's won a face off yet which led to the first goal against and has killed the PP before it ever gets started. That's just not good enough.
