VERY RARE thread by me, but this popped into my head......

http://www.hockey-reference.com/teams/NJD/skaters.html sort by pts.....

(assuming patty resigns)........kovy's got 13 years left on the contract would need to average ~61 pts a season to hit 1000......that and the fact that patty can still rack up points and go for the grand himself. (70 away) i'm on the fence as of now and would like to hear other thoughts. cheers guys.

1000 as a Devil? Might be pretty hard but he will likely clear over a thousand by quite a bit overall.

It would be pretty tough, but to be honest, I think "as a member of the" records are kindof dumb.

If Kovy continues to play the way he is now and Lou does not get him some big time help then no. He will have injury or just wear down.

He will not be playing the entire 13 years of his contract.

That being said, he'll be well above 60 points a season for the forseeable future.

he'll probably play another 8-10 years and ultimately average about 50-60 points a season. maybe higher some years and lower others.

i disagree about "member of club" records. such records show that a player had both talent and longevity.....both traits i find important in sports. a good example is the MLB 3000 hit club (of which only 28 have obtained)....not many can say they did that.

on another note......gordie howe's "played in X amount of decades" and al arbour's 1 game coached in '08 to get to 1500 games were complete ****ing jokes ....... staged tripe.

in arbours case only to get a nice round number attached to his resume.

Everyone here should certainly hope so.. We need him at his best.. Love Patty but I will always hope that his records are beaten, because it means better things for the organization

Actually it's twelve years left on the contract. Fifteen year deal, '10-11, '11-12 and '13 were the first three years of it. And I'm not sure he plays the final five years of it when he only has $10 million in real money coming to him over that time.

I think beyond that, the question of "can player X(in this case Kovy) become the devils all time leading scorer?" is an interesting topic.

Certain milestones within an org are noteworthy as well. Say if a guy could ever put up 500 points with 3 different teams. That would be a pretty cool stat.

Looks like Francis is the closest to ever doing it. Only guy to ever total 350+ with 3 different teams?

How bout can he crack -100 on the +/- scale? Currently a -33 with the squad.
