I know it's probably an overreaction but Canada hasn't been good at all these 2 games (except Lafreniere).

If Lafreniere is out it's a real possibility Canada finishes last in their division, as they currently sit last with the tie breaks. Would they be relegated next year in this case? Just curious.

None of the teams that are in that group are going to get relegated. Those are probably 5 of the 7 best teams in the tournament.

Still think it will be between the Czechs and my Germans

After the first game people were talking about us winning gold. After the second game, you’re talking about how bad our two games have been. Ummm... we defeated a tournament favourite. You should probably buy a new panic button, you may have broken yours with how hard you just hit it.

Have you never watched this tournament before? There's a relegation round for the bottom teams of each group to decide which team gets relegated. Thinking that Canada is in any kind of a real danger of being relegated is a silly overreaction.

We still the best at hockey! This is just under 20 hockey.

..oh and no chance to get relegated.

Need better coaching. should have always ran with Hofer and the lines have been a mixed bag, not much thinking.

Canada is the host of next year's tournament so they wouldn't actually be relegated even if they finished last in the tournament.

They’ll change the tournament rules before Canada, Russia or the US are ever regulated. Those hockey federation are just too powerful

No absolutely no.
Canada just needs to win next 2 games Germany and Czech- Republic and get full 6 points ( 3 per win)
to avoid relegation round.

With that skill and talent what Canada has that shouldn't be any challenge or tough task.

No they can't. Even if they lost every game 15-0 from here on out they will be hosting this tournament next year.

Technically, any team in Group B can still go to relegation if they lose both their next games while all other Group B and Slovakia gets a point in 2 games.

Even then, they would have to lose a best of three against Kazakhstan.

They could either host and not play or they can change the location. I haven't seen any mention of the host having to play in the IIHF rulebook.

relax everyone its all a plan. greatest rope-a-dope hockey game every played. Give the Russians the greatest victory of all time, they all get drunk, full of false bravado the next time they play Canada they expect to stop every shot and then score on every shot they take., after all they are the greatest hockey team in the history of hockey, RIGHT?

I've heard reference many times in the past that the next hosts cannot be relegated. Maybe they've changed that, but it's been referenced a few times in the past when the format was 4 in the relegation pool and 2 went down and those 4 included the next hosts. I never bothered to check to see if the commentators were idiots or not but it was said often enough there must be something to it. Haven't heard it recently though.

One thing is for sure, the quality of the junior program is slipping more and more in recent years. There was a time Canada was a lock for a medal. Now Canada looks like a meh team every year who has to have everything go right to win.
Canada won gold like 2 years ago. Canada also went through a stretch in the late 90s early 2000's where they were consistently failing to win. I know people like to make broad and sweeping judgement of programs based off a small amount of data but this stuff is cyclical and it has been proven that it is.

Anyway, it would require a 4-5 game complete meltdown from Canada and specific results from the other matches for that to happen and I don't think this team is bad enough even with Lafreniere out to get there.

Going in... I thought German's were good enough to beat anyone in the bottom 4 (Swiss, Slovaks, Czechs, Kazakhs) but not good enough to beat the Big 5. Basically, that 6 spot the Czechs have had for a decade. After watching you outskate, outshoot, out special team us. I could see Germany still winning another game. Really well coached and skilled. The powerplay was beautiful in both games so far.

I think the win over the Czechs has sent the Czechs into a spiral for the Kazakh game. German's spot is safe for the quarters.

f*** NO... I still think Canada can win the pool and the gold. I can see the retrospective videos running on TSN loops for years to come after coming back from the dark day (Laf injury, debacle loss and helmet incident). That US/Russia game this afternoon has taken on a lot of importance. This pool is insane and, unfortunately, has made the other pool boring to follow as it's predictable who 1-2 (and gold medal contenders themselves) are.
