Holgy had them flirting with the playoff a couple times but they never put it all together. On a year in year out basis though you have to go back to the Rich Rod era

They've taken everything cool out of college football. Idk if people even remember the goals of NIL or the CFP. They were not to create a few millionaires or to have a 12 team CFP.

Saban's response was pretty good I thought.
He said (paraphrasing), if strength of schedule isn't going to be valued as much, teams like Alabama might, in the future, stop scheduling non-conf. games against tough teams as the SEC is tough enough even though those games are great for fans.
He then went on to say that he thought the 12 best teams were in the playoffs and that's what matters, and each team that didn't make it controlled their own destiny, had flaws and bad games that kept them out.
I agree with both of those sentiments.

I understand the message, but there are much better years for Alabama to use it than this one: Mercer, USF, WKU, at Wisconsin.

Most definitely this wasn't a great year to make the statement. I felt it was more of a general statement, which I agree with. In the end, he came right out and said the 12 best made it and teams that didn't have nobody to blame but themselves.

Now we're hearing about the path to the championship perhaps not being completely fair, with Penn St. only needing to beat the 9th and 10th ranked teams to get to the semi-finals. Here's a scheme that would not only be a lot of fun for the fans but would also definitively reward teams that finished with the highest ranking (do away with the seeding).
Put the 9th and 12th ranked teams in Round 1 "away slots" on one side of the bracket.
Put the 10th and 11th ranked teams in Round 1 "away slots" on the other side of the bracket.
5th through 9th ranked teams pick their Round 1 "home slot" (opponent) in that order.
1st through 4th ranked teams pick their 2nd round "bye/ home slot" in that order.
Give the teams 5 minutes after announcing their rank to announce their decision.
Never gonna happen, but it would be a lot of fun. And I'm a big fan of introducing an additional "chip on the shoulder" factor that a higher ranked team picking it's opponent might invoke. ["They wanted us? Well by god, now they've got us!"]

2021 I believe. To me it's just as ridiculous as the one at Yankee Stadium.
Hell I'd rather play at Shreveport or Birmingham. At least those games are played at actual football stadiums.
