Value of: Cam Talbot

I hate them too but if they offered a 2nd and everyone else offered a third it’s a no brainer.

Yeah, the refusal to trade inter-conference is a thing that will not benefit a team if the value gap is big enough.

For instance, Treliving did this with Baertschi when he demanded a trade. Management mentioned Vancouver offering a 2nd was the highest offer out there by a big margin. It's worked out well for us so far (Rasmus Andersson). Looking at that 3rd round and later in 2015, if Treliving absolutely refused to deal within conference for the highest pick possible, I think we likely end off the Baertschi trade with nothing at all.

Not saying you have to trade Talbot to us, but saying that putting old school ego before a sound business decision isn't likely to be a smart idea.

Talbot will be easy to trade come the deadline. Playoff teams that may need an insurance policy or an upgrade.

He's not currently an upgrade over any playoff team's goalie imo and I'm not sure he's really capable of being an insurance policy at the playoff level.

Maybe a late, late pick given his age and stats and the fact that goalies tend to have less value than we'd expect in trades.

You are right, not an upgrade on a playoff team regarding the starter. But he would make a great backup at a cheap cap it because most of his salary will be paid. Also he has the experience. Just two years agai he was a game away from the third round of the playoffs.

I don't think Talbot will go to Boston as they have Halak as backup. But we never know ? I do think he will prosper as a backup for another team as a change of scenery will help his game for sure. Maybe a backup role in Seattle ?

He was a Vezina candidate in 2016. Also had a .924 SV% in the playoffs. So yes he is capable, but I suspect being played the most games out of every goalie in the NHL in the past 2 years has taken a lot out of him, especially with the D we've had in front.

Goalies rising and falling pretty quickly isn't all that unusual. Most guys except for the very top tier goalies have had short peaks.

With the Oilers trying to make the playoffs, it does make sense to just keep him, does it not?
You would think so but they need the cap,who else do they have that they could dump??Other than Lucic ,I really think he just inmoveable ATM

Chia will want to do that early in the deadline (like next week), probably why the signing of Kosk. This way he can use the cap space to make other moves. Send him to Jersey we'll take his whole cap with some assets, then try and move him for next to nothing. Cap space baby! You can have Kinky back if you like ($1.25M)
