As one of the internet's main Braun supporters/defenders throughout his career, one thing that's particularly interesting to look back on is how, despite being an unheralded prospect (as seen in his 7th round draft status), Braun actually was basically NHL-ready by the time he finished at UMass.

A quick three-game cameo in the AHL at the end of the 2010 season was followed up by 34 games in Worcester the following season—and 24 in the NHL (including, something I remember distinctly, two of his four career power play goals coming in that span)—and then the next season was effectively an NHL regular.

Granted, he wasn't exactly young—he was right around his 24th birthday when he made his debut—but it is pretty wild to have someone move so quickly to NHL regular despite such a low draft pick. You could compare it to Thrun, for example (who was younger, tbf), but he was drafted quite a bit higher and I'd say that Braun was definitely much more reliable and successful immediately upon reaching the NHL.

The good thing for Furlong, despite his not-great debut season with the Barracuda, is that this is still just his age-20 season, so there's certainly time for him to develop there to be the left-handed second-coming of Braun.

Braun had the ever-rarer combination of having untapped potential and the drive to develop it.
