No teams will want Gibson but there may be a few that could be interested in Fowler if Ducks retain

Only way a Gibson deal could be made is if closer to deadline a team is in desperate need of a goalie and Gibson has had a real good healthy season

If Fowler was in the final year of his contract then (perhaps?) he would have value. But he’s a 34 year old guy with 2 years at 6.5. That’s a tough contract for clubs to take on without sending money back or having high % retention. Imo that’s a no value player.
A bit like Petry to Pittsburgh a few years ago.

Fowler is better than Petry was. I think he’s pretty underrated at this point. He’s still a great skater and an absolute Ironman from a usage standpoint and he plays every phase. His efficiency and +/- will look a lot better on a team that isn’t a tire fyre and running him into the ground 26 minutes a night, 82 games a year.

He’s also 32 not 34. That’s a big difference. It just seems like he should be 34 he’s been around so long. At two years for his 32/33 and 33/34 seasons - it’s not really an albatross contract in length/aging. Especially with his skating ability and durability / insane ability to handle workload.

Even light retention and some salary make weight coming back (which I’m sure the Ducks will be agreeable to) IMO gives him very good value and makes him a sought commodity.

IMO several teams would be very interested in getting Fowler at the TDL for 2 playoff runs. At $6.5 million he is not overpaid for a top 4D. And I'm sure Fowler is itching to return to the playoff hunt after the last six years of no playoffs so he'll likely open up his 4 team NTC a bit to accommodate a trade.

I'd be speculating but maybe Fowler and Verbeek have talked about his future in Anaheim and they aren't on the same page. Or maybe - just maybe - this is more unsourced speculation from Friedman. Either way, I'll stand by my statement that there would be interest in Fowler IF he is made available.

If this conversation is the impetus for this rumor, wouldn’t that suggest Verbeek told him he’s not part of the timeline and not so much that Fowler cares about the playoffs? And how many recent years of Fowler being content on a losing team does it take to come to that conclusion? Hasn’t the writing been on the wall for some time?

Keeping Gibson this long was a mistake IMO. He has zero value and had a lot at one point.

Fowler would likely interest a decent number of teams though. Especially if Anaheim can retain salary.

fowler should have been traded a while a while ago

that being said i think the wings make sense, especially if ducks are willing to take back a contract

I think they would have accommodated if he ever really pushed for it. He's coming up on 1000 games for the Ducks, has a ton of respect in the org and seems to really love it there.

Can't believe Fowler is 32, feels like it was just a couple years ago he was on the Spitfires.

Great contract tho especially if Ducks retain.

I imagine non hockey life impacts decisions also, pretty sure during that time he got married and had a kid

Things change. The Ducks had 3 promising rookie LHDs hit the league last year, whereas just a year earlier there were times when he was literally the only D on the ice who wasn't a 6/7 or AHL caliber. It may just be the right time now ... but at the same time it would have to be for fair value otherwise what's the point, they don't need to unload him for kicks.

Fowler can get a pretty good haul back for the Ducks. Gibson on the other hand - Anaheim might have the retain

Have a feeling ANA hung onto Gibson and Fowler for too long. Ala CGY and how they handled Kipper and Iginla

That .888 sv% should be the nail in the coffin of pretending Gibson is the same goaltender as he was 5 years ago. He’s been cooked for half a decade. This has to be a top 5 worst contract for a goaltender all time. He got his money and has shit all over himself ever since. Ducks are going to have to eat this one.
Top 5 of all time is a little excessive
