Well let’s see

1. cam has been open about wanting to be here

2. cam proved it by signing a contract

3. Cam was literally at a fan event last night with the management group 5 feet away from him. I highly doubt he would have been there if this was close or in the works. It’s a slap in the face to him (and embarrassing) and the fans who went there to see him last night

4. cam wanted to stay, nobody else did. He has a young family

We got the better player: no doubt about it. Cam was/is on his last legs and isn’t very effective anymore. But the optics of this deal are gross. I can’t respect it.
You are the first to complain about the talent on the ice
The business is winning and getting better players to form a better team
That’s what you wanted

Great trade. I love it. Cam is just not a great
Player without more skilled players around him. I’m honestly shocked at the return we got for him. Good for Dr. Evil and JD.

Sad to see Cam go but hopefully Jake's offense can help ignite Laine and foster growth in the next round of young guys.

@Double-Shift Lasse - You mentioned Voracek had negative things to say about Columbus in the other thread. What were they? When I met him at the ASG years ago he raved about Columbus and how he'd love to come back one day. Also the rumor a day or two ago was that Columbus was one of the teams that Voracek requested his trade be to (a request that Philly didn't have to honor).

We swapped someone who wanted to be here for...someone who wanted to be here.

The best I see anyone say about Cam so far is that he wanted to be here.

Great. I want to be here too but I can’t help this team get to the next level. I feel like we are in the same place with Cam.

He’ll always be loved here but sometimes it’s just time to move on if he knew it or not.

I admire Cam's loyalty but it did nothing to keep Jones or Panarin in Columbus and it wouldn't keep Werenski there either.

Shocked.

It's an upgrade on player, but I thought Cam would retire a Jacket. Hard to see such an ambassador for the club and city get moved.

I look forward to seeing Jake with Laine.

Just think back at how bad Cam was with our top lines last year. When we lost Panarin and then PLD Cam was exposed. It’s a business and Jake will be much better for Laine and I think Jarmo knows that.

Voracek brings some hugely needed playmaking ability and is likely a significant boost to Laine. Between Voracek and Boqvist we should also see a major boost to the PP. Team is going to struggle this year but it will atleast be a lot more entertaining

I kind of compare this to the Umberger for Hartnell swap but this time we get the shorter deal and the better player

As long as everyone who hates the deal freely admits that they dislike it for non-logical, purely emotional reasons then I'm ok.

Yeah. Except it's not non-logical. Moves like this will affect the reputation of the organization and judging by how many guys wanted out lately, I don't think the Bluejackets are in the position to make moves like this one.

I think it’s funny that everyone hated that phony “we want players who want to be here” campaign but now we’re mad when Jarmo makes a hockey move.

Hated it because it was corny and… desperate? Not because it wasn’t true.

Sad to see Cam go but hopefully Jake's offense can help ignite Laine and foster growth in the next round of young guys.

I don’t remember. Seems like he pooh-poohed the city and fans.

Yes, I know things can change and people can forgive.

Cam got a lot of minutes the last two seasons and played through injury. He was tried with various line combos and it didn't click - not to crack on him, he has played hard, what did he have 4-5 shorties? Good luck Cam.

So when Portzy said a player / players didn't like playing with Laine - Cam maybe didn't, and Voracek said he would like too. Hopefully the team gells and makes this rebuild entertaining.
