A little high, but if he becomes a consistent 20 goal scorer, it's perfectly fine. Figure Calvert get a slightly lower deal, maybe 2.5 or 3.0 per year.

Jackets really banking on Cam to start finishing those chances. Maybe he'll loosen the grip on the stick now he knows he's going to stay. 3.5 is too much for current Cam but if he starts finishing opportunities it'll be a good deal for us.

Or they are banking on a healthy team and Atkinson looking more comfortable playing where he should be. I think he needs another good offseason but he'll get there

While I agree, with every contract Kekalainen brings in/signs, I'm less and less confident in his ability as a negotiator. The only contract negotiation id say he won is Johansen. Plus Cam is an RFA, he shouldn't get that much...

Calvert, Letestu, Cam's contract prior to this one...

Don't really understand the kvetching. A little rich in cash at the end, but the average is about right. CBJ are paying a bit on the come with him, but IMO his game has changed a bit and although he's not burying chances, he's still getting them and his play away from the puck has changed.

A good, fair deal imo. But as mentioned, Cam needs to establish himself as a finisher. If he can be a consistent, borderline 30-goal player ( at least 25+ ), then it's a great deal.

Doesnt Assistant GM Bill Zito handle the negotiations? You'd think he'd be more shrewd being a former agent himself... either way JK has to sign off on it, and I also think that is pretty steep for Cam. Not too mad we're hanging onto him, but still...

I don't think of him as a 2nd line scorer. I guess we view him differently.

Low on assists, but FIRST LINE LEVEL GOAL SCORING.

Honestly, people! Get some awareness of players outside of this team and fantasy leagues! :shakehead

Okay, 3rd liner. Anisimov has been utilized as a 3rd liner with 20 goal ability/potential with a similar contract. Why is Cam's viewed in such a worse light? Because he's a winger and not 6'4"?

And isn't as good. Let's just leave it be. Some think he is a lot better than I think he is. I guess I am just tired of overpaying guys. We have so many guys locked in for a long time at contracts that are too much. I just don't like the direction of the organization. I like a few guys on the team and that is about it. And we are almost stuck with who we have and have very little room to add anyone.

You're right, I forgot about those. Even so, I think it will be hard to justify a 2.5, 3.5, 4.5 increase for Cam unless he somehow becomes a ~30 goal player rather than an ~20 player. Which I think is possible if he's properly utilized. But I don't know if I trust that he will be.

3.5m for a 2nd/3rd line scorer and he DIDN'T include an NMC/NTC

HOW is it terrible?!

Pretty much what players like him are gonna be paid. At first blush, it seemed like too much to me, but it's probably just about right. Hopefully, he's earning that $4.5 mil come season 3.

I suspect if he doesn't show more finishing ability in the next season or so, he won't be getting paid that big third season from the Jackets. It'll be from someone else.

RD, there are times I agree with you. However, if Cam proves to be a consistent 20+ goal scorer, that is 2nd line production. I would prefer more consistency game-to-game, but maybe that is where the value is - that Cam can do it in bunches, and the hope is he gets more consistent. He is short of 20 goal pace this year, but not by much. 13 goals in 58 games = 18/19 goals for the season.
The point earlier in thread about his size not matching up with CBJ style - valid point, but we need some speed. Now, if only Cam had better snipe ability - he can shoot, for sure, but need goal results too. Seemed like when Dubi got rolling in Feb, so did Cam/Calvert. Need them 100% healthy, and/or need Cam to figure out how to play without Dubi at full tilt.

Im not a huge fan of the contract, but I would've been much more upset if we'd traded Cam, he's one of my favorite players, so I'm happy. :)

Always liked Cam.. but first thought when I saw the deal was dang 3.5 is A LOT.. Feels like we rushed to get him signed after not getting anything worthwhile on the trade front.

I cannot for the life of me believe folks are actually COMPLAINING about this. I was expecting he'd be past $4m/year, especially after the Zuccarello extension. We get a more than fair deal for both sides... and folks are angry about it. Unbelievable.
