Whatevs.
I had that same shock horror react when it was first announced, but we don't have anyone worth paying in the next few years and have space to burn.
We're also in this odd position of needing more than we can realistically fill via the draft. We don't have many assets and a young QB that needs to be evaluated.
We haven't had good WR play since our AFCCG run with AJB, Davis, some of the slot guys and then Jonnu Smith at TE.
Realistically we could have traded a pick for a more desirable 8/10 player, but for us in our position we're probably better off just signing the 7/10 player for cap alone.
Will Levis is still a major question mark. His arm talent is absolutely jaw dropping. The way he can flick his wrist and the ball explodes down the field was really fun to watch, but that doesn't equate being a good fundamental QB and we've also had the worst offensive line in the league and non-existant weapons outside of a post apex DHop.
For the sake of giving Levis a far shake to know if can be the guy that we build around we needed to address WR and OL this offseason. Cushenberry / Ridley etc are some nice adds. Hopefully Alt in the draft and we have a foundation to work with.
And then if he sucks then we're in the market for one of the top QBs in the 2025 class.
Still feels like we're drifting into that space of purgatory. Jon Robinson didn't leave us in a good space after constantly letting talent walk and convincing his hubris self that everyone was replaceable.
The old regime let Conklin and Brown walk for nothing and replaced them with busts in Isaiah Wilson and Treylon Burks and we took significant steps back.
If we suck again, oh well, but again anyone worth paying has been paid.
Also Ridley is younger in football years than his actual age after two years of rest. If he can give two or three decent seasons around 1K yards, then cool.
Pats offered ~$22 million per season and the Jags had an offer for not very far away either. You have to pay to play sadly and Ridley was the best wideout on the open market.
Neutral / slightly positive on this.
Dumbest owner in the league
Guys I refuse to pay AJ Brown who is 24 or 25 years old, and wanted $95 -$100 million
But Calvin Ridley??? Here take this money at 29/30 years of age.
Robinson was literally fired by AAS for how the AJB saga transpired.
It's the easy parallel to make here, but it's not really intellectually honest (or fair).
