I'd hate for the isles to lose CDH. He's so underrated. He's been arguably our best defenseman this year.

To be fair, people asking for Gaudreau in exchange for CDH are like the people in every Islanders trade proposal who go "it would honestly take Tavares for you to get [our above-average player]".

**** it, Let's just do a Tavares for Gaudreau swap and call it a day :naughty:

They'll lose one of deHaan, Nelson, Lee, or Strome, yes.

I don't want to trade deHaan for picks. Ideally he's protected or traded for a forward.

If I were the Isles I'd protect:
Boychuk, Leddy, Hamonic, De Haan
Tavares, Ladd, Strome, Nelson

Boychuk, Leddy, Hamonic, De Haan
Tavares, Ladd, Strome, Nelson

Tavares (NMC)
Ladd (NMC)
Nelson (unless Strome outplays him the rest of the year)

Boychuk (NMC)
Leddy
Hamonic
De Haan
Pulock

D > Forwards, especially considering the Isles prospect pool up front. Let LV choose between Strome, Lee, and Cizikas

In an ideal world, however, Ladd and Boychuk both agree to waive their NMCs since I doubt LV would consider them (or even NYI could guarantee it with a pre-Xdraft deal) and Isles get to protect 2 more guys (I'd pick Cizikas and Strome, leaving LV with Lee). I'm not sure if that will be something we see happen at all, but it makes sense for the guys if they're 100% sure they won't be picked and want to help the team.

This would be my protected list as well.

Trading say, Strome at low value for a bag of pucks because we're worried LV might take him is pointless because LV will take someone else. Now we lose a player in the expansion draft and we lose Strome for practically nothing.

It's best to just let LV take their pick of Strome, Lee, or Cizikas (maybe Clutterbuck honestly, he's a great locker room guy and elite bottom-6er) and bite the bullet. We protect our defense and maybe another team that loses a top-4 defenseman might be willing to pay a lot more for someone like CDH or Boychuk.

We'll probably do the "protect 8 skaters" thing. There really aren't that many forwards on the Isles we NEED to protect, so if we lose Strome or Lee to Vegas at least we still have our defensive depth.

vegas would happily take strome in this scenario

Clutterbuck is a UFA and won't be eligible.

If we could get anything decent for Strome before the waiver draft, I would do it. I would be perfectly fine if LV took Lee, who looks completely lost and is 26 years old and makes too much, or Cizikas, who I think is overpaid. Heck, I would be perfectly happy to shed both contracts and free up $7M for a legit scorer.

Personally, I would rather keep Strome, and see if a new coach can get something out of him. But, I don't know at this point if I would protect him over Pulock. It's one of the reasons I want Capuano fired sooner rather than later, so we can see some young players with a better, or at least different, coach.

All that said, I don't see the Isles trading de Haan unless they are getting an immediate upgrade at forward, and one who is similar in age to de Haan. And even then, it may not be in the best interest of the team long-term.

Cizikas has been, at worst, our 2nd best forward this season. And for many games he's outplayed JT.

Gaudreau looked great for 1 season facing 3rd comp at home.

Something he has not shown he can handle period!

HAHAHA this was hilarious. Thanks for sharing this, made my day after that Trump nonsense. Gaudreau hasn't proven he can handle anything more than 3rd pairing competitive, SUUUUUUUURRREEE.

Garth has a lot of his own reputation tied to De Haan. He traded twice just to move up in the draft to get him (26 to 16 to 12), giving up four top-100 picks. He has developed into the quality dman he envisioned, and is still cost controlled. I doubt Garth will ever trade him as long as he is GM. Of course, who knows how much longer that will be...

Some things never change, man. Oilerbear dumping paragraphs of tenuously connected stats without a concise conclusion that seem to be pulled from some unknown source is one of them.

Logically if one of the reasons he is being moved, is because the NYI don't have enough spots to protect people, than the return will/should be mostly pieces that don't need protection.

Love to get him on the Leafs, but he would be 3rd pairing and is would probably be cost prohibitive.

CHeck the edit.

you are not winning a cup without 3+ top 60 HD d.
it is better to have them in your top 4.

Larsson was the best available Dmen at suppressing shots in danger area and PK.

Dehaan is showing a level similar to young elite.
with superior transition numbers.

He is going to cost you a top 60 Forward.

the only time you see Off dmen with Reasonable HD and EVGA numbers are when they face bottom 2nd comp or lower.

Gaudreau looked great for 1 season facing 3rd comp at home.

.25 EVPPG on the road is not going to help you get a cup.

As you move up the playoff ladder you start to face more 1st comp and upper 2nd forward depth.

Something he has not shown he can handle period!

Hah the salt is so salty.
