What would it take to get De Haan. Excellent skater and first pass LHD, can help the powerplay, had good numbers in junior. Rumors that snow has made him somewhat available. What would islands fans want for him ?

I don't see any way they trade him until Hamonic comes back, and even then I doubt it. They may lose him in the expansion draft, but it will likely be him or Pulock. Either way, they need to keep both to compensate.

Ideally, Gaudreau (or another scoring winger) so no, probably not happening.

Wont the isles lose him to vegas if they dont trade him ?

We'll probably do the "protect 8 skaters" thing. There really aren't that many forwards on the Isles we NEED to protect, so if we lose Strome or Lee to Vegas at least we still have our defensive depth.

I don't really know the value of De Haan so I mean no disrespect.. Would something around Stafford (50% retained) + pick + prospect be something of interest? I don't know your needs other than someone stating RW.

Right? De Haan's value is nowhere near Johnny Hockey's

When discussing Dmen.
offensive Dmen have to abandon the defence of the path to there own High Danger area. They often end up being in the bottom of HD defending.

what is worse is when you look at the top 300 EV goal scorers (team top 10 scorers) 94% of the goals come from forwards.

Who do you want to have the puck when attacking down low (HD area)!
Get the Forward the puck ASAP!

you want D that pass the puck well and read quickly.
Who do not chase goals by abandoning there primary role.
Defend the HD area!

CHeck the edit.

you are not winning a cup without 3+ top 60 HD d.
it is better to have them in your top 4.

Larsson was the best available Dmen at suppressing shots in danger area and PK.

Dehaan is showing a level similar to young elite.
with superior transition numbers.

He is going to cost you a top 60 Forward.

the only time you see Off dmen with Reasonable HD and EVGA numbers are when they face bottom 2nd comp or lower.

Gaudreau looked great for 1 season facing 3rd comp at home.

.25 EVPPG on the road is not going to help you get a cup.

As you move up the playoff ladder you start to face more 1st comp and upper 2nd forward depth.

Something he has not shown he can handle period!

Oh yes, de haan is definitely worth a first line player. If he was, yknow, a top pairing defender. But he's not. A 3 might be a stretch, but he's 4 on his team either way, would be 4 on Calgary, and we aren't going to trade for him just to protect him anyway.

Fancy stats be damned, people live by those things any time they have an agenda; see random oiler fan coming here to put down the flames

To be fair, people asking for Gaudreau in exchange for CDH are like the people in every Islanders trade proposal who go "it would honestly take Tavares for you to get [our above-average player]".
