Now, I'm not particularly sure of the basis for the deal, but is there any way that we could get Klein onto Calgary?

He'd really fit the type of team we are building, and a pairing set up of

Gio - Klein
Brodie - Hamilton

Would be well worth the cost. Excellent shut down set up.

Name the price!!

Rangers need to add Defense, not subtract it. The Rangers surplus is at forward. That being said I don't know that Klein is untouchable, but Rangers would need a lot.

Maybe like Jokipokka and Andersson for Klein? Maybe Rangers throw in a winger? Not really sure though.

I don't see the Rangers traded Klein now, but maybe at the deadline if they are struggling, or after the season. Something like Rasmus Andersson and a 2nd would probably get it done.

Not even worth discussing until after the expansion draft. Who knows what our lineup looks like at that point.

Good one

Don't see NYR trading him unless overpayment, he's one of their good D's and he's not overpaid

He has a great cap hit. I would have no problem paying him 4 mill a year for how good he is. Obviously we are fuc%ed because of Girardi and Staal`s contracts but Klein is easily a player who would justify atleast a 4 mill cap hit. He is a very good top 4 and a defensemen who can fill in next to a #1 like Mcdonagh when needed. Not ideal that he is our second best defensemen but i would say he is a solid #3 who is more than good enough to play top pair minutes with a guy like Gio or Mcdonagh.

we can only lose 1 player... it's not that bad

It's not worth it for Klein though.

Right now the Flames could protect pretty much anyone of worth with the 3 defense, 7 forwards option.

If they got Klein, assuming they didn't intend to lose him to Vegas, they would need to do the eight skater option. Monahan, Gaudreau and Bennett are locks but that means at least 2 of Backlund, Brouwer and Frolik are exposed on top of any player who bounces back (Bouma, Ferland, Chaisson). There's really no reason for the Flames to get a long-term defender before the expansion draft.

I see stepan being traded for RD, preferably expansion exempt, like Pesce +

That could make Klein available since AV will be made to stuff it and accept McIlrath, and most likely we have to keep Girardi + his NMC throughout the season.

If KK moved, what does he command?
Me thinks EDM wants cheap RD, and can use Lindberg + Fast as middle sixers, and I see all three get Oilers 2018 1st. That is more than only Klein, but serves NY with excess Fs.

So, would need to be significant young D, pref but not required RD, as core piece, who adds depends on how good that piece is. Otherwise better deal than the above on picks to NY,

If Marc Staal waives, would you take him, his NMC, Klein, add Zuc,
what kind of package do you offer?

I don't see us moving Klein until we have a better idea how the rest of our defense is going to perform this year. At the moment I consider him our second most reliable D---and the Rangers are a playoff team--Calgary a maybe playoff team and a playoff team is not going to undermine its chances of getting back to the playoffs by trading such a dependable player for futures.

So it's a no to Klein unless Calgary is willing to overpay.

Maximum efficiency. Instead of ruining three different NYR threads, you combined all three bad proposals and put them in a single post. Doesn't make the deals any better though.

Stepan isn't being moved, and Klein + scraps doesn't fetch Edmonton's 1st. They need cheap, GOOD talent very soon. Then we get to this atrocity. Zuccarello, Klein and Staal. Holy...

I don't think Zuccarello gets you Hamilton. Then you're left with Klein and Staal. Staal's contract negates any value Klein has, and somehow Flames should add Andersson, 1st and then some. Awful. Then it could be mentioned that Flames are fine with expansion draft now, but if they do this deal, they add three players who either have to be protected or are too good to not protect, while only losing one. Aaaand... they also add over 7 million of cap. Future = ruined.

Don't derail the thread. Don't turn this into a huge trade.
