Tough luck.

Habs had the same thing happened to them in 2019. They had 96 points and missed while in the West; Vegas, Dallas and Colorado all made it with 93 points or less.

East was superior that year no?

Flames a far better year than expected, that’s for sure. They have a great young goalie and some really good younger players. They have picks and prospects coming too. Can they repeat this year’s success? Can they be even better? With that goalie, they definitely can.

7th fewest regulation losses, but the only team with fewer than 30 regulation losses that didn't get at least 101pts. 17th in regulation wins. 29th in GF. Only 15th in GA. Tied for most OT losses.

If any one thing doesn't go an average team's way, it can flip their season. If the Flames were really good at not losing in regulation, they needed to be even better at that(in theory, 26 losses instead of 27), to overcome their other average to poor performances.

did they reach 96 points by playing in a western conference with weaker opponents than the eastern conference? similarly, do the WCs in the eastern conference have lower point totals because the eastern conference has tougher teams, and less bottom feeders than the western conf?

you know the Flames used to be in Atlanta, right? the past is apart of "ever"

I know it’s waaaaaaay too late for a rebrand
But imagine if Calgary had gone with Calgary Cowboys in 1980. It has an attachment to the city and would have instantly boosted its brand simply by association with Dallas lol. “So how about them Cowboys?” “Oh they blew it to the Eagles” “No I mean hockey Cowboys”.

That may have stopped me from ever becoming a Flames fan, when I was a kid I loathed anything country related (still don't like it, but I have matured.... kind of)

Calgary's 27 regulation losses were also tied for the 7th fewest overall. Not bad for a team in Year 1 of a "rebuild."

This team absolutely deserved to make the playoffs.
That's an....interesting.....user name you got there 🤨

Seems like the worst possible outcome to me. Calgary doesn't have enough high end prospects/ good young players to be finishing in no man's land.
