The east is back to be the weakest division by a margin but before you get all stuck up, it's just all it goes it swing back and forth every couple of years.

Kinda harsh that Calgary finished with a better regulation record than both the Blues and Wild, but they got torpedoed by a poor record in the coin flips (10-14 in OT/SO) while St. Louis was 12-8 and Minnesota was 12-7.

Eastern teams finished with a slightly winning record in regulation over Western teams. There were no Sharks, Blackhawks, or even Predators in the East who were ghastly awful teams. The Flyers were the worst team in the East and they finished 8 points ahead of Nashville, 15 ahead of Chicago, and 24 ahead of San Jose.

STL 44-38
CGY 41-41

i know the blues are barely above .500, but flames being exactly .500 and missing the playoffs makes sense. most of us don't think of .500 hockey as playoff worthy.

amazing how much the loser point can dress up a record and keep a team in the playoff hunt

East has a winning record vs West, and the worst team in East has 76 points while the worst in west has 52(3 under 76), but "East is the weakest."

This is a fallacy as they would’ve played different teams a different amount of times, and the three bottom teams on the west provided the most “gimmie” points by far.
worst team in the East (Boston) had 76 points.

4 teams in the west with 76 or fewer and the bottom 3 had 68, 61, and f***in 52 points

CGY did not have a better regulation or coin flip record

MIN - 33 RW, 42 ROW
STL - 32 RW, 40 ROW
CGY - 31 RW, 36 ROW

their ability to force OT, even if they lost it frequently, was the reason they were in the race

I'm sure they'll hang a "Flames deserved to be in the 2025 playoffs" banner in the Saddledome.

In all seriousness, I was pretty impressed with what the Flames did this season. They have some good young pieces to build around but they're still stuck in that mediocrity vortex and it's hard to tell which direction they're going in.

The east is a perpetual joke lol. There was a stretch where all those teams competing for WC2 were below .500 in their last 10, all losing to each other

Calgary is weak.... the only reason they were in the playoff race is because they were 9-1 against SJ, Chicago and Nashville.

They would be fighting with the Flyers for a top5 pick if they were in the East.

Calgary's 27 regulation losses were also tied for the 7th fewest overall. Not bad for a team in Year 1 of a "rebuild."

This team absolutely deserved to make the playoffs.
You played a lot of bad teams down the stretch and teams that were resting players in garbage time
It’s not that impressive
The only impressive thing is how consistent the Flames are at being mid

No chance? Montreal isn't THAT much better than them.
What? You're missing the point.

The point is that Montreal (and every other team in the east) is better than San Jose, Chicago, Anaheim, Nashville, etc.

I'm just glad we didn't finish 11th last.
It was fun being in the hunt for awhile, even if it was a reach. Nextyear they'll likely be in the same spot of just in/just out. Hopefully this time in.
