Just for reference, we have $9.3M in cap space next year, to sign 1 goalie, 2 defensemen and 4-5 forwards.

The goalie, Gustavsson, is probably going to be in the $2-3M range, let's say $2.5M

The two defensemen, let's say one is Faber on an ELC and the other is Addison on a reasonable bridge of $2.5M

That is now $3.4M left for 4-5 forwards:

3 of them are 4th liners, let's say $900k average ($2.7M total), so now we're down to $700k for another forward, if not 2.

This is why Greenway's $3M and maybe Goligoski's $2M (if possible) might be shucked.

Greenway is the easiest to shuck. Addison makes no sense at all as A) Guerin and Evason haven't said anything really negative about him. B) Minnesota will need to replace Dumba and outside of Faber, they don't have another rightie.

Personally, I'd shuck Fleury and pick up a cheap goaltender on a one year contract.

Feel like you could easily do Fleury for Desmith with PIT tbh.

He was a season removed from a Vezina. You're now going to pretend that it was asinine to give him a two year contract that was below market value because he wanted an NMC? Too bad time travel isn't possible, otherwise you'd be the greatest GM of all time.
And he floundered in Chicago and the last part of Minnesota. He's always ran hot and cold as a goaltender, but taking the risk of adding 3.5 million in the dead cap years was a risky venture. Talbot at least had an expiring contract this year and didn't have a NMC. Guerin was dead set on getting Fleury for whatever the hell the reason was and the only way to make sure was to give him a NMC because Fleury (and his agent) had complained about all the trades.

Chicago had one of the worst defenses in the NHL and the team overall was garbage. I find it hard to blame the goalie too much given the situation he was in.

Talbot was not good, so Guerin made the move to get another goalie. Fleury was the best one available. It's not a mystery why Guerin wanted him. Cost was low.
