Cale Makar scores 30 goals in a season, first since Mike Green

Am I the only one who thinks that 30 goals for a d-man now days isn’t all that impressive? The way scoring has gone up and bunch of d-men putting up bunch points. Rookie d-man like Hutson has 62 points in 74 games. Two more d-men other than Makar have 20 goals etc… I think the real impressive thing would be if a d-man can score 50 goals one of this days
Are you referring to the same Hutson that has 5 goals? Are you trying to say that Makars 6x goal amount to Hutson isn’t impressive?

The same Makar that in his rookie year scored 12 goals in 57 games?

This is only the 7th seasons a Dman has scored 25 o or more goals since the 05-06 season.

It's extremely impressive.

I called into Cale and told him to calm down tonight and stop showing off his big balls in Columbus. You're welcome.

They've committed to calling Quinn #2 n the world. Going to be so funny when he leaves for NJ in 2 years.
He is a really good D man that I would love on my team and I am sure he will be a nuck for life . I am a Jets fan and we have Morrissey who I love but I have no problem saying there are 3-5 d men in the league that I think are better .

I'm not belittling Morrissey by saying that but I think there are a few better d men imo

I mean, he’s the only guy to do it.

For that matter he’s the only guy to score over 20.

Yes, I think a guy scoring 50% more goals than anyone else at his position — regardless of what that position is — is impressive and a strong marker of a top-tier Hall of Famer.

All I meant was, the way d-men scoring keeps going up, it seems like scoring 30 goals by a d-man should happen more often. I understand that it’s rare and props to Makar. I mean im an Avs fan and I wasn’t trying to undermine his accomplishment or anything like that

It seems like it should? almost as if there’s stats to show how often it should or should not happen…

He has a wicked wrister. Has speed and accuracy. And most important he gets it through. Crazy seeing the game change from Dmen like Weber Chara letting it absolutely blast em from the point to some accurate pin point wristers we see nowadays.

Forwards get more attention than d-man because they are always better/more valuable for similar tiered players
They get more attention because they get more points. And points are easier to measure and (deservedly) garner attention.
Gretzky, Lemieux, Howe are all generally seen as better than the best D-man in Orr.
I don’t know man…
Crosby, Bobby Hull, Jagr, OV are generally seen as better than the 2nd best dman in Bourque or Lidstrom.
Doug Harvey is the 2nd best blueliner ever. He’s in that class of player. Might be the 5th best player of all time. And there’s also Eddie Shore.
D-man don't impact a game as much as forwards. That is the way it has been historically.
I don’t think this is true. But would love to see how you came to this conclusion.
Makar has 87 in 76 good for 93 pts, Quinn Hughes has 70 pts in 61 games good for 94 pts in 82.

Makar is not the undisputed best dman. He is neck and neck with Quinn hughes now over 2 full seasons.
I’d say it’s Makar but… Hughes is pretty great.
No one would have Quinn Hughes ahead of Mackinnon or a comparable Kucherov or Draisaitl.
Many people would.
Makar is incredible but discounting Mackinnons season to prop up Makar is foolish
True. But I wouldn’t discount Makar either. I have zero problem with anyone saying he’s as good as Mac. I mean the dude is phenomenal.

We have 2 other d-men right now with 20 goals in the NHL so… it’s probably just a matter of time before 30 goals for d-men becomes a norm

It's funny how Canuck fans are missing in action now .
What do you want us to say? Hughes got hurt and took himself out of the running for the Norris. He was also arguably the front runner before he got hurt. He was playing even better than last season, and doing so with almost zero help. On an island out there.

Hughes is leading his team in scoring with 70 points in 61 games. Next is Brock Boeser with 46 points in 68 games.

Makar, Burns and Green as expected are up there. Didn't think Sheldon Sourray would have one of the best goal scoring seasons of the past 20 years.

This isn't a Norris thread, this is just about him turning the puck over into the opponent's net 30 times so far. They will, though.

No kidding. The media is in love with this guy and gives him automatic finalist nods even when he misses a quarter of the season. Not losing sleep knowing he’ll win the Norris.
