Calder Watch : 2024-25 Season

Hutson perfectly summarized in one game:
✅ 2 secondary assists
✅ blows his coverage on the OT winner

Strome was Hutson's man on that play, Ovi was Guhle's.

There was a series of blown coverages on that play that created a chaos situation. Demidov got caught off his man, Newhook got caught between covering for him and covering his own man which caused Guhle to half commit to covering Newhook's man. He's wide on Strome for sure though, Guhle needed to recognize that Newhook had Beauvieller (and Newhook needed to recognize the cross).

Either way, Washington did good on the switch over, having Beauvieller and Ovi switchup sides was a great set-up and a reason why they were a great team all year and their coach should win the Jack Adams.

I honestly think that Wolf should win it. A 7th rounder from 6years ago carrying a middle of the pack team almost into the playoffs. But it is hard for goalies to win the Calder and what Hutson did was outstanding too. So it will be ( or should be) Hutson, Wolf and then Celebrini/Michkov.

Lane Hutson himself thinks those goals were on him. First one, idk if i agree. He turns it over but Struble has to pay attention. OT goal he definitely loses Ovie (his guy, as evidenced by Hutson shadowing him....), but that was a good faceoff play to create chaos and clog skating lanes.

Crazy. Hutson should learn as a 29yo

If you go into the oilers playoff thread there are posters that are putting the game one loss on mcdavid.

Its just what jealous, shitty, small fans do to make themselves feel better about not having a superstar on their team.

Hart trophies, art ross trophies, historic conn smythe wins won’t shut them up because they really don’t care about reality, they only care about saying things that give them comfort.

The handful of hutson trolls that will jump on every opportunity to bring him down likely won’t ever change during his career, just recognize them for what they are and don’t take them too seriously, because they aren’t serious people

Did you really take what i wrote as a slight against Hutson? Really?
That’s one of the many reasons why i love him.

When a player holds himself accountable and is honest with his play he’s only going to get better and better. Those were decion making/ lack of experience based plays not fundamental player flaws that caused those goals.

That’s why it’s so awesome to have made the playoffs this year, this kind of Experience is so important.

And now the Hutson/McDavid comparison. My goodness.

Hutson and Celebrini are locks to be nominated. Then it could go either way with Michkov and Wolf. Can't go wrong.

When is the last time there was a rookie class this strong? There are quite a few other rookies that would have been nominated in other years.

Yeah it’s crazy, kids with 20 goals not even getting a sniff.

I think all 4 “finalists” would have won probably 75% of the time in any other year

Though they didn't put up the same number of points, the Makar/Hughes class was spectacular.

Wolf had a .910 sv% this year, that would have been the 4th best sv% in Calder voting during the Makar year behind Samsonov, Merzlikins, and Blackwood.

Makar had 50pts in 57 games, Hughes 53pts in 68 games, Fox had 42pts in 70 games. If they'd all have played 82 games seasons, they'd have better numbers than this season's crop. Also that was Suzuki's rookie season so I'm biased.

Definition of no self-awareness. You're literally talking about yourself, you embarrassed yourself in the Michkov thread, and couldn't even stay off the Flyers board Michkov thread hahaha. Massive homer/troll.

Opitome of what he is as a player. Did it all year and will continue to do it, a Ghost 2.0 clone, except Ghost scored goals, Hutson does not.
Yet Michkov is finishing 4th in the Calder. His one-dimensional play makes him a poor Man's Laine. No bueno.

Meanwhile Hutson is playing meaningful hockey in the playoffs thanks to his historic offensive production this season! :)

I think it’s pretty clear that head lice doesn’t watch hockey or remember who he’s talking to on these boards 🤣

In all seriousness, I think you’re selling Michkov a bit short. I think a more apt projection for him is like a Pavel Bure without the speed, hands, or shot.

A modern Sergei Samsonov is another good comparison. Samsonov’s numbers might look a little underwhelming, but keep in mind that his best years came right in the middle of the DPE.

Lane Hutson leading in points for rookies in the playoffs as a defenceman and I think he's about to heat up on home ground.

Well look at this. The pot calling the kettle black.

Samsonov actually won the Calder so mm has a bit of a hill to climb in that comparison.
