Calder Watch : 2024-25 Season

There is ZERO chance Hutson would be close to setting any sort of assist record on the Sharks. I'm not sure he comes close to 30 assists, and not because I don't think he's good, I think on at least half the teams he's breaking or coming close to that record, but because the Sharks are an absolute failure of an offense without Celebrini.
Well whatever amount of assists you think he would have got the point was he would have still looked impressive as a rookie and sharks fans would be complaining about their crap team costing their prized rookie a chance at the Calder

100% hence, once again, my original point.

I 100% think Huston has, however making the likes of Suzuki and Caufield better is going to be better reflected stat-wise because of how good they are as compared to the Luke Kunins and Kovalenkos of the league.

Let me ask you, if you plop Hutson into the Sharks line-up, how many points do you think he ends up with (without Celebrini in the lineup). Now, put Celebrini on the Habs (without Hutson) and I ask the same.

...why do you keep bringin up Suzuki & Caufield without also mentioning Smith or Eklund??...not that they have had the same opportunity so far, as they are younger, but they are also good young players who help drive the team...and as for the rest, again the Habs finished 5th worst last season with that Bottom 9 (minus Laine)...you seem to be overstating Hutson's cast while understating Celebrini's cast and also understating Hutson's position as it compares to Celebrini's...and your last sentence isn't about THIS season's Calder trophy as much as Celebrini's postional importance to his team...lastly, Hutson is chasing an NHL Rookie record that has stood for 40 years, Celebrini isn't...

OK. 10 of Celebrini's first 17 games, the ones I mentioned where he played and prior to Blackwood being traded for Georgiev were against Playoff teams. Now granted, the last 2 were against Florida and TB and they got beat by like 10 goals combined.

This isn't cherry picking, it's clearly showing Celebrini was having a massive impact on the on-ice product, but unfortunately his positive affect couldn't overcome the sheer garbage can effort from Georgiev.
Stop complaining about Georgie , he helps with the Tank , aka draft picks .

Going to have to disagree with not breaking 30 assists.

Walman would have broken 30 assists on the Sharks. Hutson is the better playmaker from the blueline.

Mostly because Smith was 19, hasn’t played and was downright awful in the first half of the season. Eklund hasn’t played much with Celebrini either. Neither are remotely in the same league as where Suzuki and Caufield are. They’ll get there but they’re not yet.

Walman was a classic case of Grier selling high on a good start, but when he got injured in mid-December and came back early January, he was, and I don’t say this lightly, one of the worst defensemen I’ve ever seen.

...they will get there, as you can see the talent in these kids...amigo, Celebrini, Smith, Eklund, Askarov, etc are all excellent prospects and I can see your team improving dramatically in a very short time; I'm not disparaging at all what a phenomenal season Celebrini is having...however, so is Hutson and his impact on the Habs has been incredible to the point of Historic...that, I feel, puts him in the Calder driver's seat... :thumbu:

Oh I have no doubt the sharks will get there. All I’m saying is both Hutson and Celebrini are special talents, but is going to separate them this season is one gets to play with other special talents now while the other will be in a couple years time.

I just checked wahlman had 26a in 52 games with the sharks yeah Hutson would have struggled to get 30 all season cmon bruh @TheBeard

I think more likely is both players would have a shift of 10-15 points if the teams were reversed

If the teams/players were reversed, habs fans would be bragging about celebrinis ppg + rookie season, (shoo in for the calder) and sharks fans would be complaining that Hutson would have broken the rookie assist record if he just had a better cast, and would have won the Calder playing for a better team.
Actually if Hutson was on the Sharks I'm not sure he'd still be in the NHL right now.

Cele probably should
I try offer an olive branch and yall are obnoxious . Enjoy your shit team
I'm not kidding at all. He would have been absolutely murdered and would not have scored enough to stick around. Without Celebrini this team would be historically dreadful (again). Hutson probably is killing it on the Cuda right now.

Guy cheers for one of the most embarrassingly horrible teams in the league and figures the best rookie in the nhl couldn’t crack their roster.

He would not only not be anywhere near the best rookie, he probably would not have played in the NHL all season after going like 0fer in 10 games and getting rung up for double digit minuses. The Sharks without Celebrini are in the wilderness.

Sharks have scored 30 less goals then the Habs. Almost entirely due to trading off their producing players. Sharks top 9 is outscoring the habs top 9. Members of our top six are at 33 points, which would be 8th on the sharks.

Hutson is basically the difference between our teams goals scored. What the Habs are is significantly better defensivelyal and in net. Sharks are just getting shit canned way too often. The Habs were just as bad as the sharks when primeau was in net.

It's an interesting narrative that celebrini has a weaker cast but it's not based on reality. Sharks forwards might actually be better than the Habs pre zetterlund trade.

But I'm sure next week Demidov will be the excuse with his staggering two likely regular season games.
