Calder Watch : 2024-25 Season

Well, there are literally 32 teams that passed on Hutson. Even Habs drafted Slafkovsky (makes sense), Mešár and Beck ahead of him.
His size and how he would translate was a huge question mark. But all those questions were answered this year.

I think it was Celebrini until the 4 nations break but Hutson is a lock now even with 5 games remaining

That being said Calder cup aint that big of a deal Sharks fans will be happy to have a real #1 center for the next decade Celebrini is the real deal and i would give anything for him

Even credit to Michkov and Wolf who are also having crazy good rookie seasons we had a good race this year

like i said before
Hutson would win the calder this year even if celebrini finishes the season with 85 points (in less games, while being 18) Context matters
So if Celebrini scored 23 points in his last 4 games you don't think that might influence some Calder voters?

He gives the puck away a lot
Celebrini has more giveaways than him in less games, playing less minutes.

Notable D with more giveaways than Hutson:

Carlo, Andersson, Faber, Pietrangelo, Hanifin, Hedman, McDonagh, Carlsson, Makar, Werenski, Provorov, Sergachev, Harley, Bouchard, Karlsson, Weegar, and many more.
especially in the defensive zone
Notable D with more defensive zone giveaways than Hutson:

Whitecloud, Dobson, Theodore, Dunn, Andersson, Montour, Orlov, Tanev, D. Hamilton, Q. Hughes, S. Jones, Trouba, Faber, Werenski, Dahlin, Reilly, Sanderson, Hedman, Skjei, McDonagh, Carlsson, Pietrangelo, Karlsson, Bouchard, Makar, Hanifin, Sergachev, Carlo, Harley, Weegar, and many more.

You’ll find that defensemen, especially ones that have the puck a lot, will have a higher amount of giveaways, especially in the defensive zone. Hutson gives the puck away at a remarkably low rate, including in the defensive zone, considering how much he has the puck and the kinds of plays he makes on a nightly basis.

Celebrini has just 12 less defensive zone giveaways than Hutson, despite being a forward, and is one of the worst offenders in this category among forwards.

Also, Hutson’s tk-gv differential is among the best in the league, especially for defensemen, better than guys like Makar, Werenski, Weegar, Carlsson, Dahlin, Dobson, Hanifin, Sergachev, Andersson, Faber, Q. Hughes, Morrissey, and many more.

He’s comparable in this category to guys like Slavin, Forsling, McAvoy, Heiskanen, Larsson, Eckholm, D. Toews, Fox, Sanderson, and Vlasic. Notice anything about these guys? All this, despite playing a much more dynamic offensive game than all of them except maybe Fox.

Oh, and he’s better than Celebrini in this area by an absolute landslide 😂
doesn't block shots
He has 120 blocked shots. That’s more than guys like Reilly, Dobson, Spurgeon, Morrissey, Harley, Power, Faber, Hanifin, Suter, S. Jones, Fox, D. Toews, Kovacevic, Dahlin, Montour, Josi, Eckholm, Forsling, Heiskanen, D. Hamilton, McAvoy, Theodore, Dunn, Q. Hughes, Ekblad, Orlov, and many more.
doesn't hit
He has more hits than Celebrini 😂. And he has more hits than many notable D, like Sanderson, Fox, Hedman (lmao), Faber, Andersson, Harley, Bouchard, Power, Brodin, Pesce, McDonagh, Slavin, Reilly, Heiskanen, Q. Hughes, and many more.
Just quit the meat riding, please.
How about you quit the lying? Since I know you are just going to try to ignore this post, I want you to answer for your blatant BS. What do you have to say about all this?

As has been pointed out repeatedly, Celebrini (or Michkov) would need to be sitting at ~100 points right now to be on par with Hutson in terms of where his season ranks both historically, and relative to his peers. Celebrini is absolutely nowhere close, and won’t get close with 4 games left in the season. It’s over.

The sooner you accept it, the better you will feel. Celebrini had a really good year. He would have won it probably 99% of the time but caught the 1% year where his opponent had a historical year.
It is pretty crazy that Celebrini is 4th in ppg since the lock-out behind only McDavid, Barzal, and Panarin (and ahead of Petterson and Kaprizov) and likely won’t win the Calder.

I completely disagree but all of this is subjective of course.

The thing is the poster I was referring to was throwing out the 85 points in less games, which isn't happening obviously.

If Celebrini needed 100 points to be on par he wouldn't be getting any first place votes in June and he will get some as will Wolf most likely.

As i pointed out before it was an exaggeration to prove a point. What happens in celebrinis last 5 games (including the 5 point night) will not move the calder needle in any meaningful way

Hutson is currently 4th in scoring among all defensemen, and is currently occupying 7th place all-time for rookie defenseman point totals. He could finish as high as 3rd, 2nd if he goes on a tear like he has been.

The current 4th ranked forward in scoring is Pastrnak at 102 points. 7th place all time for rookie scoring among forwards is Mario Lemieux with 100 points.

For some of these posters, they have been corrected numerous times already. They are completely uninterested in hearing a rational argument for why Hutson is a good 5v5 defender.

You would most likely have said that after the Havelid selection. It's normal.

Actually you are incorrect there. I wanted Casey or Hutson.

I was disappointed in the Havelid selection.

Edit for receipt:

Funny enough I was advocating for Beck as well before the 2nd round began.

The original comment was a literal rabbit hole, i called it out yet a small group of insecure Hab fans need to follow up.

Can't wait till next season.
