No,but because of his overall play.I guess the even bigger question is why are you quoting me here or do you think Hutson is going to win the Calder because of his defense?

Because of a post-4 Nations push where they have a +15 goal differential. They're up by 8 points.
He is a defenseman and he is being compared to a forward. No shit sherlock defensemen gets more secondary assists... they play further down the ice for chist sake. That's a greater portion of assists being secondary for Lane, FYI.
I would love Celebrini on my team and he's a baller. I'm very jealous of San Jose fans getting to cheer for their 18 years old future captain. It's awesome to have a clear 1C set in stone right after he was drafted. I just don't like people here moving the goalposts everytime a Hab player does something good. Thanks for that, as a Sharks fan I have to admit that Celebrini's defensive game has suffered as the season has worn on. That said he is still tenacious and a lot of his on-ice goals against have not been directly his fault (some definitely have been) and his PDO against was at least recently abnormally low (Bad goaltending/unlucky at times... Plus terrible defensive support).
Hutson is putting together a historic season and in my eyes he's the front runner and likely winner, and he would deserve it.
I think the pushback from sharks fans is on these "lol only 57th in points, not historic" arguments, because while not currently AS historic as Hutson, Celebrini is having a historic season for an 18yo. He's 14th all time, with 4 games remaining and a shot at 9th all time, for 18yo points. And he's third to only Crosby and McDavid in the 20th century for PPG for an 18yo.
Hutson's season is more MORE historic, but Celebrini's season is also historic.
So the case for the voters who put him first on their ballot (there will be some!) likely centers around that history, and the context of his team.
He'll get some first place votes and most of the 2nd place ones, and would probably win most other years, just an unusually strong class.Kinda crazy that Celebrini is having a ~top 10 18yo scoring season and won't be rewarded for it

As much as team accomplishments probably shouldn't factor into it, only way I see Wolf winning is Montreal crashing and burning spectacularly with Hutson having the worst stretch of his career while Calgary against all odds makes the playoffs with several shutouts in a row from Wolf....it isn't over yet...while I still believe Hutson will win & think he should, I could see a case for Celebrini...Hell, I still think there's a case for Wolf...
So you haven't seen him play.If you're going to give him a boost for being a defenseman you have to knock him for his defensive play.
What has that got to do with the Calder?Question for fans outside of the 2 fanbases, if you were to do a draft/redraft with Celebrini and Hutson, they're both available and your pick is up, who would you pick?
Pitiful excuse. Hutson made Montreal better, SAN Jose still stinks despite 2 highly touted rookies. His team is putrid, it’s incredible he has managed to put up the season he has
I prefer actual pts over what might have happenTechnically he is if you go by ppg and by a substantial margin.
Do we have to use a first overall on Hutson or can we use the 62nd overall again?Question for fans outside of the 2 fanbases, if you were to do a draft/redraft with Celebrini and Hutson, they're both available and your pick is up, who would you pick?
True, there's a handful of Habs fans who tend to stick out with over-the-top posts, but, thankfully, the ratio of hyperbole to equanimity is small. Most of us are huge fans of what Celebrini is doing, even while we're thrilled with Hutson.I think it's understandable to be annoyed at other fans denigrating the historic quality of Celebrini's season. There is little doubt in my mind that he has generational upside.
I also think it's reasonable to think that voters who would put him ahead of Hutson on their ballot are either wrong (since we agree Hutson is having the better season), or voting as if the Calder trophy is not purely about rewarding the best rookie season.
That said, some Habs fans' gloating in this thread has been particularly annoying. In their defense, they wasted months debating posters who were attacking Hutson, and these debates have now been settled unilaterally in the Habs fans' favor. They are taking a well-earned (if rather wearisome) victory lap on the heads of the doubters.
Both teams have solid gold players in their lap. Congrats.
He's a dman. Nothing abnormal thereThat's a greater portion of assists being secondary for Lane, FYI.
Who's panicking? I have Hutson winning it. I have Celebrini and Wolf fighting out for a close second and Michkov 4th. Look i can see Celebrini becoming a franchise C.If Hutson had it 'wrapped up,' people wouldn’t panic every time an 18-year-old center drops 5 points in a meaningless game. Oh wait — it’s not just one game. It’s 62 points in 66I mean, let’s just enjoy the ride and see how the season ends)
Depends how much of a reward you consider the Calder Trophy to be. As a Habs fan who's been blown away by Hutson, I honestly don't care if he wins it or not. Whether he's first or second for the Calder has zero effect on how the Habs are doing as a team and how Hutson's career will progress moving forward. Those are the factors that float my boat. A popularity vote... not so much.Kinda crazy that Celebrini is having a ~top 10 18yo scoring season and won't be rewarded for it
Our Lane is handling himself quite well on the back end. If you compare from the start of the season to where he is now is day and night. It's still not evidence of anything pother than people are putting more money on some names than others. And let's not pretend like Habs fans haven't made this thread completely f***ing unbearable the last couple days, as per usual.
Cool. Most defensemen worry about stopping goals before scoring them and there is half as many dressed ever night... forwards on the other hand most of them are trying to score before worrying about the defensive side of the game. Comparing ranks between positions is about as useful as the people posting betting odds... it doesn't mean shit
You have it all wrong. 18 ,20,22. Should have no impact on the Calder. Future outlook should have no impact on the Calder. It's fine thinking Hutson will or should win... but this is just a really shitty take... you think players should be punished for being drafted by shittier teams? That is absolutely f***ing ridiculous.
This is an individual award, not a team award.
What you should be asking is what would these players seasons look like in different situations...
You put Hutson on one of the lowest scoring teams in the league, how would his numbers look? What would Celebrini's numbers look like if he played on a PP with Suzuki, Laine and Caufield? What would Wolf's season look like on a team with more than 3 NHL calibre defensemen and a team that could score?
IMO a case can be made to vote for any of Hutson, Celebrini or Wolf...
People were talking about primary & secondary assists. I just posted what they were. That's a greater portion of assists being secondary for Lane, FYI.
Kind of misleading, your trying to make it sound like Lane is 3 yrs older. Not close..It is harder to come and be as good celebrini ha been as a 18 year old top line center, then it is to be a 21 year old defensemen.
You forgot all those secondary assist , terrible defensively, Too small, better team, better players [even though all our players and team supposedly sucked before the start of the season, bottom feeders if i remember correctly.] Head fakes get you nowhere, Looks like a lizard, plus/minus when it was at -13 etc...If Lane was wearing any other sweater doing what he's doing most of poster would be nominating. You don't get it. When Celebrini scores with the dead Sharks it's meaningful. When Hutson plays out of this world to help his team win 6 in a row to fight for a playoff spot it's meaningless and box score flash.
Get it? Me neither.
I'm not sold on that. The whole team has been clicking since the 4 nations. Everyone seemed to have a monster March and while Hutson played a part, I'm not convinced it wouldn't have happened anyways.
