I’m aware it’s relative to Joe but Leo is also decently sized and larger than Celebrini.

You didn't say it wrong, he's an 18 year old rookie that broke the franchise scoring record. We literally have never had that caliber of player on the team. A 61+ point rookie 1st line center.

You are making it seem like they are 3 years apart when 2 draft years seperate them.

Hutson is a top pairing D playing meaningful games in April.

Comparing D to a forward by just evaluating points per game is disingenious as F.

Playing less games and using pace is not a flex but a disadvantage.

Only one rookie here is breaking NHL records for their position and it's not Celebrini.

Celebrini is a franchise C and I'm sure will have a great career but your take is not genuine in the least bit.

Huston plays on the PP and first line with better players. It’s fair to say Celebrini would be near 70 points at this point in 66 games playing with the likes of Suzuki and Caulfield.

...and Hutson is a defenseman...that makes a wee bit of a difference as well...I think Celebrini is having an incredible season, but Hutson is having a possible record-breaking season...that also makes a difference...

Relative to their peers it's Hutson and not really debatable. If you don't believe me look at the records book for rookie D and the current betting odds for the calder.

Even Montreal’s defense san Huston is better than the Sharks. They had what like 76 points last season? Sharks are at 50 and won’t even hit 60.

If Hutson was a forward he would have almost 90 pts this season.

There are a lot more forwards than defensemen is easier to climb the list as an elite defenseman. And Celebrini’s individual defensive ability and puck winning abilities (for a 18 year old) should factor in.

The point is he would be very likely to have those stats with better forwards and defenseman supporting him like Hutson does. So team quality could be a factor when comparing.

I'm a Sharks fan so yes I do know. Thornton is a first ballot Hall of famer, it's not an insult to say that Celebrini isn't a lock to be that at this point.

He's getting heavily underrated for that reason too. Not a good team around him and also plays west coast so less coverage

Celebrini is a future superstar and what he's doing at ripe 18yr with his already solid two game is seriously impressive stuff

Just unfortunate timing because for me Hutson has been slightly more impressive. Relative to his peers at the same position he is having a historical season. It's his to lose at this point

Elite defenseman are simply rarer than elite forwards do to much less players overall. And Hutson is having a historic season with much better support than Celebrini. That’s my primary point.
