Calder Watch : 2024-25 Season

Hutson reminds me quite a bit of Karlsson, more so than Hughes or Fox, but he seems to give a shit about defense more (though my reference is sharks days more than pre-Cook injury). The top speed isn’t quite there, but the shiftiness absolutely is.

I’m not sure if you can win a cup with a sub 5’10 #1 D, but someone will prove me wrong on that eventually. Perhaps it’s Hutson or Hughes.
I can see an issue if there were several small dmen but if he is the only one and the rest of the guys on D are the shape of a building. It should be fine.

Also Makar won a cup and he isn't much bigger than Hutson.

Maybe let's start by re-reading the first line of my post "Hutson is going to win the Calder and I suspect it isn't going to be all that close."
To spell it out for you just to be super clear my opinion is that... Hutson has had the better rookie season.

Now I do think there a solid cases to be made that as of today Hutson or Celebrini are the better player but that conversation doesn't belong in a thread about the the Calder.
Well maybe I misinterpreted the tone of your post. Apologies.

edit: Took me 3 reads and yes I did misinterpret it. My bad.

Hutson is a lock for the calder. Everyone who's thinking otherwise are living in a fairy tale

HF: I wish habs fans would shut up about hutson for a minute

No. Its directed at this nonsense posted this morning

A key quote:

Maybe most sharks fans know and understand the calder voting process than the vocal minority of Habs fans?

He won't listen to Habs fans, maybe Sharks fans should tell him to take a seat
So nothing about what I posted since it was true eh?

I'm not part of the cult and have already said that Hutson probably is going to win but it's not a done deal yet or not a landslide either.

The thing is that people were saying it was Hutson's to lose since the turn of the year when he wasn't even the frontrunner yet so spare me your indignity.

I mean there were also uhhh... "people" (definitely probably not you) who said Hutson was "stuck in 2nd" unless Celebrini gets hurt again, and that the voters wouldn't be voting for him at the end of year.

We had PHI fans in Nov say it was over (Michkov), Sharks fans in December say it was over (Celebrini), and yeah we've had Habs fans say it was over (Hutson) for the last few months. Tbh Calgary fans were all pretty tame.

Lots of people gave their opinions throughout the year, but only a few claimed it was over long before it really was.

That's fair and it really is a minority of people but they just happen to post a lot and when presented facts often just move the goalposts or do a laughing emoji about something posted in real time 4 months later.

Also the whole "if you don't agree with me you are obviously a hater" types that some how can read or are just really insecure.

I'm sure every fanbase has them but with legacy and popular teams like the Habs it just seems so much more because it is.

That's fair and we're at least self aware.

I remember that athletic poll about most hated fanbases. Montreal was 2nd most hated behind Toronto, but also the only fanbase that voted their own fanbase as most annoying lol.

...the more people you have, the more of the "Vocal Minority" you have...

Hutson leads the entire league in plus minus since the four nations break, is third among every d in the league in points going back to being promoted to pp1, is second for all dmen in assists and 8th in the entire NHL in assists, and plays more es minutes than most 1D. Where do you get 2d from? He plays more minutes than Hughes and Makar did as rookies. The only reason he's at 23 minutes instead of 30 is because the Habs are shorthanded a lot. The Habs have a gluttony of pk specialist defensemen, it would be completely illogical to put Hutson there.

Low end 1c/1b c and middle of the pack goalie don't compare to what will end as the second highest scoring defenseman rookie season in history.
I love habs fans irl… some of the best fans with a treasure trove of wisdom. And that largely applies here except for the few insufferable ones here who can’t take a W.

Hudson is the favourite absolutely, but come on.

BEST +/- SINCE THE 4 NATIONS BREAK:

1) LANE HUTSON (+18)

2) ROBERT THOMAS (+16)

3) CODY CECI (+16)

He'S nOt GoOd DeFeNsIVeLy
I mean not saying he’s as bad as some may but you’re showing a +/- with Cody Ceci in second arguing about how great he is defensively. That Cody Ceci…

But how can a D-man who isn't that great defensively win the Calder?

What I'm going to be interested to see is how upset some of you are when some voters don't put Lane first. Given the PASSION, I imagine that if it's not the biggest landslide in history, people will be offended on his behalf.

In reality, there are four amazing rookie reasons, Lane is now the heavy favorite and if he wins he'll deserve it, he wasn't the heavy favorite a month ago, and some voters, who are actually not idiots, may still put Wolf or Celebrini at the top of their ballot. If you can't even try to understand why, then you are also part of the problem.

Just admire the great year for rookies and if you're a Habs fan, take your W with grace.

You say we need to take the W with grace, but not until after you pre-complain about Habs fans being upset about not winning by enough. Maybe take the L with grace and worry about things that have actually happened.

All the evidence I need is the last 10 pages of this thread. I've been consistently here, objectively assessing the odds and admiring the players. The extreme takes are very tiresome and the thread is devolving into what happened to the last thread, which is trollish gloating by habs fans and trollish negging by habs haters.

FWIW, I wouldn't deign to speak for all Sharks fans and having read the thread I wouldn't put you at the top of the list to well represent the Habs side. @Frank Drebin has been a good example of a Hutson fan who is clearly on his side and a very dyed in the wool Habs fan, but who appreciates the arguments on all sides. There are more.

thanks dude. I do feel my best work is in my trolling however
I suppose it won’t be any surprise when everyone provides the same courtesy and reminds them that they drafted reinbacher instead of michkov

And the "win with grace" thing becomes yet more ironic after another post shitting on the fans you argue should be gracious.

...Reinbacher was a "need" drafting, as Montreal has small scoring wingers but no one really to take the mantle of 200 ft. RD...not to totally excuse it, but at least a case can be made...
