The post-deadline team is terrible, especially the defense and goaltending. Walman and Ceci were not world beaters, but they could make a break-out pass and feed the transition. Their trades crippled the team. The D right now is mostly not NHL quality (Thrun, Thompson, Carlsson, Vlasic). Ferraro and Liljegren are the only NHL quality, but are 4-5-6 type D. Fourgiev has been backed up by AHL goalies generally not named Askarov.

...it will pay off in the long run for San Jose...too much good young talent on your team to stay in the basement long, imo... :thumbu:

It's no secret that Celebrini was more highly touted than Suzuki. That being said, if Vegas knew what he'd become, there's no way they'd have traded him for what they did. Suzuki has greatly exceeded expectations, and I think it's fair to argue that his ceiling is now higher than it was when he was 18. If Celebrini tops out an all-star first line center who excels at both ends of the rink and puts up a ppg, he'll be considered a resounding success as a first overall pick. Well guess what? That's what Nick Suzuki is, it just took him a couple years to get here.

Exactly what JIMVINNY just said. That's what someone doesn't understand. A similar but different and reversed example of this is a player like Crosby vs Mackinnon, it took Mackinnon much longer to reach a similar ceiling. We don't know what Celebrini will bring yet, so we have to wait and see. Suzuki is already proven and also still improving. So we don't even know the ceiling of both players YET. But one player will probably hit 90 points this season and is a PROVEN player. Not taking anything away from Celebrini, it's just numbers and logic.

Well this thread is boring now. All the arrogant posters have predictably ghosted this place since the race is basically over. It's a much more fun thread when there's 3-4 guys building off each other's terrible takes.

I'm already looking forward to next year.

Yea, once Hutson started to run away with it over the last week, the scores of pro-Lane posts warping reality to make him appear better than he was (which they didnt need to do) have quieted up. My personal favorite was the poster saying that Lane is the reason the Habs were making the playoffs, because he added 60 points as a dman that they didn't have last year, totally forgetting about Matheson. Or the guys who downplayed how amazing Suzuki has been just to lay more flowers at Lane's feet. And let's not forget that early talk of Lane getting Hart votes!

I miss those bad takes too :laugh:

I've watched every single Habs game since last year and Matheson is a wreck more often than not. You cannot trust him on the ice, he'll do bad passes and brain farts all the damn time, but he did get 60 points. Hutson is a massive reason the Habs are in the playoffs, and so is Suzuki. They've been Montreal's 2 best players by a large margin. Habs would 100% not be sniffing the playoffs without him, that's not even debatable.

The Carrier-Matheson pair get caved on a nightly basis while the Guhle-Hutson is the one keeping the ship afloat.

The Montreal Canadiens are not in a playoff spot right now without Lane Hutson.

He may not be the only reason, but he's a big part of it and a necessary one.

Oh you're referring to me? My mistake. I guess having JUST matheson alone last year has the same effect as having Matheson + 65pt Hutson.

Thats still a 35-40 point positive addition between the years. And that's not even talking about how much better Hutson controls the play than matheson does. Point was you inject a player like Hutson into any team and you will see a big difference, like we have now officially seen with the Habs :popcorn:

Did you not see Matheson gift warp Stamkos a goal early in the game? Team got caved all night so it checks out. Not sure where I can find the stats but I am confident the other team get a lot more shots and scoring chances when the Matheson pair is on the ice.
