Hutson has 9 more points in 12 more games. Celly and Hutson have roughly the same PPG average! So that can't be used anymore. Plus, people keep forgetting that Hutson is a dman. He should not be anywhere close to the same PPG as Celebrini / Michkov let alone leading all rookies in points.

Hutson 0.84 ppg

It's a no contest at this point considering one is a dman.

Everybody forgetting Celebrini has 6 less points in 12 less games.

Sadly he missed those games at the beginning of the season when the team was intact and other teams were getting up to speed, and the easiest part of the Sharks schedule. He's now playing gelled mostly playoff teams while the Sharks roster has been decimated. It's close to an AHL team right now and Celebrini is having to carry it.

Out of gas, a depleted lineup post deadline, teams figuring out how to minimize his scoring opportunities since linemates tend to be less than stellar… this is normal.

I watched him last night and he wasn't the same player. Was dismal defensively and couldn't produce anything. Buried in his own zone. Sharks have minimal secondary scoring which makes it hard.

I watched him last night and he wasn't the same player. Was dismal defensively and couldn't produce anything. Buried in his own zone. Sharks have minimal secondary scoring which makes it hard.

Gotta imagine the grind and the fact the team has, what, 9 games remaining in a season where they're last has just burned them all out. It's hard when you've got absolutely nothing to play for. Getting blasted 14-2 in the previous two games has shown the team has already mentally checked out. Even when Mukhamadulin got injured there was no real emotional response.

Wll be interesting to see Celebrini when games mean something. That's what has me excited about Lane Hutson. He isn't just scoring empty points. He is driving offense and with Suzuki, carrying the Habs into the playoffs. Habs don't win those two games against Florida without Lane driving offense. Still may not make it but not for a lack of trying on Lane's part.

He and Smith were both so gassed by the end of overtime. He's out there every situation at age 18 trying to carry an NHL team (if you want to call them that with their AHL defense, bottom 6, and Georgiev in net) . No one can do that, let alone someone of his age.

Would've been a little better if they held onto Granlund, Walman, and Zetterlund but the team got assets so we'll see what happens.

He'll be fun to watch for sure, but this was the price Grier paid for future assets. Eventually when you move on from Walman, Ceci, Granlund and Zetterlund (arguably two of the team's three best d-men and two of their best forwards) without replacing them with anyone of real substance, eventually it's going to catch up to them. Right now, I don't expect the Calder voting to be particularly close so long as Montreal is still playing playoff-relevant hockey.

No the team is just dreadful at this point, it has been picked to the bones and we're at the point that non NHLers are getting shots. He's the only remaining high impact player and other teams just focus on him. And the coach has been doing stupid things with the lines.

You have a rookie superstar C to build around. A great pick in the upcoming draft.
Great start to a rebuild.

Somehow there's still people like you who just forget that they're comparing the points output of a defenseman with those of a center.

Honestly, with the past two games performance, Lane is a shoe in for the Calder, unless Michkov gets like 20 more points or something. Celebrini is definitely out of the running. He's too far back points-wise. The Flames aren't making the playoffs, so Wolf is out too.

I'd love to hear anyone's argument for voting against Hutson.

I'll give you the one reason why some will vote against him. The sweater he's wearing.
This should be about the players and the seasons they are having.
