I'm biased towards Wolf. imo he's the most important to his team among the 4. I mean look at what's in front of him.

Their leading scorer has 63 points and they are a bottom 3 offense.

Their defense with the exception of Weegar, is nothing remarkable either (a few surprises like Bahl, but a few duds like Bean and Miromanov..). Their 2nd most relied on defenseman Andersson, is a -37.

He's 8th in GSAA and his .910sv% is 12th best in the league, his backup Vladar has an .895sv%

That being said, can't go wrong with either Wolf or Hutson imo.

I thought it was gonna be Maximum Celebration walking away. But Tiny Hut has absolutely blown the doors off that proposition and i don't see how it's not him at this point. Even if the Habs somehow fumble the playoffs away on the goal line...his impact has been pretty darn clear, and enormous for the Habs.

Personally, I think Celebrini has been the best player of these four but this will fairly go to Hutson.

I agree, out of this rookie class he will develop into being the best player career-wise IMO but his rookie campaign has not been anywhere near as impactful as Hutson or Wolf. I feel similarly about Michkov as well.

This should be Lane Hutson, coming from a Calgary Flames fan.
Putting up 65 points as a rookie defender is incredible. Even if it's driven mostly off assists (with a bunch of secondaries) it's still such a damn cool achievement.

I'd like to see Wolf end up top 3 in voting, but with how the NHL works that just won't happen.

I don't see how it's not Hutson? He has the most points as a defenseman, and Montreal being in a playoff spot is in no small part due to him.
Having watched most of the games I'd say it is pretty much entirely due to him. He has completely transformed the team and has elevated guys like Suzuki to new levels. Patrick Laine has 20 goals in 51 games, 15 of those were PP goals and I'm pretty sure Hutson set him up on every one.

Solid Calder race this year

However, there's no doubts, in the end, about who will win the trophy

Lane Hutson just had a season of historical proportion, was the rookie leader in points (as a defenseman) and the Habs are in the playoffs, unlike San Jose, Philadelphia and Calgary

Wolf and Celebrini would have a solid case in any other year. Great year for this rookie class and hockey in general

Hutson, but such a shame that Celebrini missed 12 games to injury because I think he would have won it - and it wouldn’t have been close - otherwise.

I think when you get the rookie record for assists by a defenseman, you’re a pretty safe bet.

Yeah it's definitely going to be Huston. I think career-wise, both Michkov and Celebrini have tremendous ceilings (so does Hutson), and so it's not as obvious to predict who ends up the better player in this group - but for rookie season it'll definitely be Hutson.

He really turned it on in December, and helped turn the Habs season around. Habs were in last place to start December, and when Hutson got going they slowly rose up the rankings.

And then - at 4 Nations break, Habs were on a losing skid and tied for 2nd to last in East...and since then, Huston is #1 in the NHL with a +18, and just overall extremely valuable to Montral's performances and wins.

No

Pro rated that’s 29 g 49a 74 pts -36. Good for 34th/35th overall in league scoring

Not enough to beat out Hutson who had 6g 66 points -2, as a defender. 7th overall in defensemen scoring.

In order for it to be close celebrini would have had to gone ppg+

In order for the vote to be “not close” in celebrinis favor he would have had to have scored 105 points or more.
