Gritty win. They need to string a few of these together. Not blowouts, but low down and tough fought.

Trouba is probably at 60% right now. He needs to sit to get better. We can't win with him hurt and him playing hurt means not getting better.

I would offer Vesey another year or 2 at 750k. And I think they should consider talking to Goat about a cheap extention. Blais still looks slow and off, but the 4th line was good and if Blais can't recover Goodrow and Goat could be 2/3 of a good 4th.

Jones is better than Hajek.

Laf and Kakko need to be bigger factors on a game by game basis. They simply do not engage enough and move their feet into the play with haste.

Yeah and the saddest part is that Kakko was playing great at beginning of the season with Zib and Kreider, then kid line was formed and he was demoted to the 3rd line and lost his confidence. Well hey no worries, there will be always a new season, probably laf and kakko will have their breakthrough then.

This board was asking for the kid line since the season began we got the kid line and now people are complaining.

Yeah wasnt ever a fan of the kid line, people hype their playoff perfomance but I dont think it was anything special.

Did not see the game tonight, can somebody give a summary?
For a team that just broke a losing streak, this might be the most team post game thread in years...

It was just a pretty pedestrian game. The tempo wasn't high for either team and I don't think there a heap of high danger chances for either team, although the Sens probably had more than us. I can't remember Talbot making any insane saves, but we did continue our proud tradition of hitting the post multiple times.

The first line was good, the PK was good, the PP tried to force too many passes, Panarin tried to many passes, Lindgren got hurt-kept playing-picked up 3 assists, I didn't realise Kakko was playing for the 1st 30 mins, Laf was very pedestrian, Krav looked ok for his 1st game in a while. I thought both Trouba and Miller looked better being separated from each other. 4th line was pretty good

Overall pretty lackluster, but good to eek out a win

Good compete level. Team effort. Every line played 3rd line grinder Gallant hockey except the Panarin line but that one was also more grinder than not. Not one player stood out. The D (Lindgren) managed to get pucks to the net for rebounds/deflections for once. Halak didn't let in any softy. No bad puck luck either way. 2 points. The End.

I think we will see Kvravtsov back with Panarin and Kakko with Tro and Laffy soon.
I think that's where it's going. I don't like separating Chytil and Kakko, but don't really see any other choice. Chytil deserves to be in the top-6, and the Kid line wasn't spectacular in the latest games either. And let's just say it like it is, Vesey is going to stick in that 1st line for a while after a game like this. Not just by him, but the whole line.

Of course, if you could break up Kreider and Zib that would open up a world of possibilities...

Just to add. We played well enough to beat Ottawa but the mistakes, injury-related miscues, disjointed play was still very much in their game. Take the two points. But we didn’t play all that different versus the Devils or the Oilers. Those are just better teams who take advantage of all the ice we give up. Trouba Jones was a real adventure. Happy to see that all the goals were scored in front - 2 deflections and a rebound. Need all lines to do that. I don’t think Chytil can make KK and Panarin work. Two totally diff styles. Kakko should go back with line 1. Vesey with laf and tro. Maybe try laf with Panarin and Chytil. They’d likely mesh better.

Blais-Goodrow-Gauthier is a damn solid 4th line. Having a 4th line that can play strong hockey like they did tonight and get solid offensive zone shifts is very important for a coach to be able to roll 4 lines. It's also where Goodrow is at his best. Simple grinding hockey. He will get his extra ice time on the PK and spotting up the lineup late in games if necessary but this should be the 4th line. There's really no reason to get Carpenter back in the lineup other than Gallant wanting him in. The 9 players in the top 9 can maybe be moved around but right now those should be the top 9 forwards right now.

It worked in the playoffs because they were a solid jolt of energy coming over the boards after the top 6 we were running in the playoffs which had Copp and Vatrano in it. That top was more effective than a top 6 with Vesey and Goodrow in those slots so in the playoffs the kid line was coming on the ice after two lines that were also doing things so they were feasting on their matchups. When used this season the top 6 was ineffective ahead of them so they were easier for the opponent to matchup against. They were riding in game flow and momentum in the playoffs to me, not really necessarily a line I'd expect to do well glued together all season.

Missed the game because of an early flight to Brussels. @Cmox

But those are the types of goals we need more of.

Only took like 10 games for this moron coach to realize the line of Goodrow-Blais-Gauthier worked well in Detroit so lets try that again. Carpenter should never dress again unless it's for another club.

Kakko had the puck on his stick in the high slot and space to attack the goal but he had ONE thought in his head, find Panarin (in the corner) with the puck. That's why Laffy and Kakko shouldn't play on Panarin's pony show line. Panarin already has his game, the kids need to find theirs, but they can't if they have to pander to Panarin.

Gonna keep saying it 'til I'm blue in the face.

Panarin-Chytil-Kravstov
Kreider-Zibanejad-Kakko
Laf-Tro-Gau
Blais-Goodrow -Vesey

Borrrrinnnnggggggg

But that's Ottawa. That's how they play. Sanderson is gonna be a good one, if they can put it together they should have a good squad eventually.

Halak was okay I guess. A lot of his saves just kind of hit him. Did make a great save on the 2 on 1 though. Pretty much played your typical backup game.

Lindgren has earned another year reprieve from me saying anything bad. Dude is Braveheart.

Trouba pushing Halak almost into the net to try and find the puck says everything. Please sit dude. You suck this year.

Honorable mention to Sam for sounding like he was eating cigarettes during the game. His "rebound" call in the 3rd sounded like he was possessed.

We need to be better still, but with the way Ottawa plays you just gotta win ugly and get back to the basics next game. Hopefully this gets the boys in a groove.

I thought Krav gave the bottom six too much jump. Lines 3 and 4 were noticeably better. GG needs to healthy scratch him immediately.

Underrated but putting Blais on PP2 was some of that big brain stuff we all know and love. Take a PP2 that can’t score, and give them a guy with 0 goals. Just happy Trouba is still there.

All of you loving Krav- serious question, we’re you more impressed by what he did during the game or has the bar been set so low that the fact that he got through the game with only 1 terrible penalty, no injury and a few noticeable minutes now equate to a good game for him?

Culture change. Starting with Panarin.

Shoot. The. Puck.

Ugly win. None of the lines looked good. A good shift here and there by each line but no consistency whatsoever.

I thought the Top line and 4th line looked very good, hence the ones who scored all the goals.

I thought that Laf-Tro-Krav line was really good.

Halak getting a well deserved win. He wasn’t a passenger.

I can accept that Trouba has injuries that are making him struggle, but he’s making a lot of mental errors.

Jones has not been good.

Panarin seems to hurt every line combination he’s been put on. He has to adapt his game.
I think our lines will be better when Kravs is gone in a trade and we can move Gauthier up with Laf-Trocheck . I tend to think Gauthier is ready to be a solid 3rd liner for us for the next 7 years and that we should give him a long term deal . Big guys with speed simply don't fall out of the trees these days . Once he gets more confidence he will even score more . He had a great game last night for us . While the trip to the AHL was a risk for the Rangers and losing him on waivers....it has certainly made him a better player .

I know it is highy unbelievable.....but Miller actually got nasty with Joseph from the Sens after a crease poke at Halak and even followed Joseph right into the corner after the whistle....by himself . Both drew 2 minutes . The kid needs to be not so nice...and he is big and young enough to get away with it
