Prospect Info: C - Zakhar Bardakov - Prospect Discussion

Regarding Bardakov, I can say the following:

1) He had problems with his weight, in the last year and a half he has noticeably lost weight, but he has a tendency to be overweight.

2) Until the last season, he always played no higher than the third, and mostly the fourth line

3) Sometimes he gets very stupid penalties for fouls in the opponent's zone, when he played in the fourth line, then penalties for rudeness, fights, etc. were very frequent.

4) His character off the ice can be a problem, because he likes to have fun, laugh, generally be relaxed and he may not like the serious atmosphere in Colorado (for example, Kovalenko said in an interview that when he allowed himself to laugh or even smile after losses in Colorado, especially when they lost several games in a row, some players looked at him with incomprehension, and some even said to him: "Why are you smiling, are you doing well or something?"), Bardakov's character off the ice is similar to Kovalenko, Kuznetsov...

This is just my opinion, based on a very large number of matches with his participation, which I saw both on TV and live in arenas, as well as on how he gave various interviews and how he behaves during them.

So you’re saying he’s fat, lazy, and doesn’t take stuff seriously.

Sounds promising.

Still waiting for this legend to break out.

Funny thing with Conner, we actually traded him, and the Blues drafted him in 2016. It doesn't let the Avs off the hook, but two other teams saw something.

I think there's reason to be optimistic about Bardakov, but not excited. Translating to North American hockey from the KHL is a challenge. Some guys take to it right away, some never figure it out and go home. I think there are some translatable skills, but you never know.

I keep typing the dude's name as Barkadov for some reason.

Anyways, what's his physicality really like? Stat watching something appeared to have happened in 23/24 where he spiked to like 1.53 PIMs/GP from his career average of 0.96 PIMs/GP. Seemed the only thing that really stood out to me looking at his stats. I gather he's not a fighter, but are his PIMs from punishing physical plays or are the results of lazy hooking and slashing while being out of place?

I prefer to have flexibility allowing for some of the former... not so much for the later.

To be fair to Arizona, even their GM (Maloney) said that they would not sign him and only saw him as a 2nd round pick, I.e. what they would get as compensation for not signing him.

So actually only two teams saw something

I don't remember that, thanks for pointing that out. :thumbu:
