C/W Carter Bear - Everett Silvertips, WHL (2025 Draft)

Is Sam Bennett be a good comparable?

He's my favorite for Habs 1st pick.

Will he still be there at their pick?

I could see Bear going in the top 10. After the top 5, opinions are mixed on the next group of prospects, feel like scouts/GMs are salivating over a guy with a huge motor/tenacity who produces.
That is my thought too. If Seattle drops out of the top-5, I can certainly see them go for him. He would be the kind of winger who would be a good fit next to Beniers or Catton and play the type of game their lines need. That plus Seattle seems to spend a lot of time scouting the local WHL teams and would have a pretty good idea about him.

It was a scary scene. It appeared to be a laceration to the ankle area of the right leg. He got up under his own power with help and stayed calm. Let's just hope it didn't cut any tendon/large blood vessels.

How does this differ from a torn achilles? Is the timeline for return any lower?
I think it's quite different. Primarily because a torn Achilles is likely the result of a combination of degeneration of the Achilles and surrounding stucture, and a trauma, which result in many points of failure for the Achilles. A laceration, depending on the severity, is going to be a much cleaner cut, and additionally, Bear's Achilles could have been otherwise healthy.

I would say that in general, a laceration is less severe, because it is less likely there is underlying chronic disease. Of course, depending on how badly lacerated the Achilles was, it could be worse. Tough to know without knowing the specifics. A laceration has a better best-case, and a worse worst-case.

Probably also depends on the extent of the laceration. Karlsson’s was something like 70% way back when Cooke cut him, that did end up hampering his skating a bit. He’s also had some other LBIs since then though.

He should be fully healed well before any kind of training camp though, so some extra healing time + being 18 all work in his favor.
