Helenius is promising player but i'm not sure is he enough good to play NHL.

Helenius is not highly scoring oriented and he won't never win any scoring titles.
Probably Helenius ends up bottom 6 shutdown C who can create little offense.

Skating is huge weakness ( Helenius is slow skater ) and that can hold him back.
But if Helenius can become even mediocre or passable skater that's great for a player of his size.

Scoring is not Helenius's calling card but physical game is.
Samuel loves play hard and if there is chance he don't hesitate to share heavy and big hits
and throw his body around Helenius is also good near to the boards thanks for his size
which makes him hard to win in a board battles.

Yes 14 points in 54 SM liiga games
in weak liiga team like JYP last season ( 2020-2021 ) is fine performance.

Helenius is at least 3-4 yrs away of NHL and he needs at least two more seasons in SM liiga
and 1 season in AHL before NHL debut.

Hopefully La Kings do not hurry Samuel Helenius.
Let him develop his own pace before bringing him to NHL.

We have so many centers in front of him he won't be asked to do anything unless he develops way ahead of schedule. Probably the best spot for him development wise

Everyone talks about his size but he is a pretty smart player too. His creativity is not that good but he really plays smart two-way game and tries hard. His speed for his size is one of his best attributes but does his lack of creativity hinder his abilities at the highest level?

His ultimate upside is bigger Roope Hintz but probably he’ll end up as a Adam Lowry 2.0.

I think if he gets to play in NHL on a regular basis is already a win in my book :)

I’m not sure I agree about his speed. I think it’s clearly mediocre. It’s good enough for his size, but I don’t think it’s anything other than bad compared to other players on the ice.

Skating is more than fine and not even below average. Obviously lots of the NHL players are better skaters than him but he is 6’6” on top of it.

If you have doubts, than talk about his offensive upside, creativity etc instead.

No no, a player is over 6’4” and the skate lovers are out in full force again. It must be slow or mediocre….wrong.

Go watch some highlights of Katarina Witt, Bonnie Blair or so.

I think there's a decent chance he can become Brian Boyle type of player in the NHL. So physical presence, good PK with reach, useful player come playoff time and can chip in 20-30 pts during regular season. I think he is a good pickup from LA as they have a lot top-6 pontetial already in their prospects. So Helenius could be the bottom-6 C that compliments well the other C's in the lineup.

You are right about the speed at the moment but his posture on ice is similar to Hintz. He is probably never going to be as speedy as Hintz. But his style to generate offence is pretty similar. They are both north/south type players.

Yes Hintz is very good in this manner but he can play all over the ice almost equally good and is very creative.

Yes Hintz has underrated playmaking ability and to get back to Helenius in my original comment. I’ll give like 1/200 chance to Helenius hit that ultimate upside. Most likely he’ll end up as effective bottom 6 player.

Watching Jyp vs Sport atm, gotta say, I think this kid will be an NHL legend. Not in the sense that he'll be a star, but he'll make a long career shutting teams down from the bottom lines.

And if someone says he's slow they're lying

Yeah for all the talk about his skating he seems to get around more than fine. I wonder if it's just a big guy lumbering around that makes him look slow? Not saying he's as fast as Kopitar, but he rarely looks like he's flying, yet no one can touch him...just a long efficient stride from a huge man.
