I'm not that familiar with Minnesota high school hockey history, but apparently this kid's father was a very good player and was too small to succeed once he moved past high school. He similarly is probably going to face that same challenge. He's a 5'8 center, but I think he's good, despite being undersized. He plays both ends of the rink, skates well, and was third on the American Select team in points. Could be too small to be drafted for a player that has closer to ordinary good capabilities, but he has two years before his draft, so he could get taller or improve his game. I think he'll be on the draft radar the next few years. I can't figure out where he'll play next season. He was drafted into the USHL, WHL, and is from Minnesota, so I think all three could be possible places he'll play. Committed to Denver for 2026-27.

His father, Dave, is considered to be one of the best MN HS players to ever play. He had a good career in college with the Gophers, but decided not to go pro.

During the HS Tournament his team knocked off perennial powerhouses Bloomington Jefferson, Edina, and Moorhead, in succession. He scored hatties in each game. Was Mr. Hockey in a landslide as a senior, and scored over 100 points in his final two years(averaging about 4 points per game).

Son is the same size as the Dad...don't know about his skating. The game is kinder to smaller players nowadays, but the son doesn't even have a fraction of the record his Dad did at similar ages.

Probably a whole generation of MN kids (myself included) pretended to be Dave Spehar and Brian Bonin.

Bonin, Clint Johnson and Rusty Fitzgerald all drafted by the Penguins. Rusty was a high school hockey player with a vanity license plate that said ICEMAN. (And I could be remembering wrong but he might had a Dodge Viper.)

Anyhow, Spe's legacy is assured as previously mentioned. Best of luck to his youngster.

He doesn't show up on the SF Power rosters anymore? Where is he finishing the season?

His father, Dave Spehar, is an absolute legend in Minnesota high school hockey. I thoroughly disliked him (rival school), but gosh darnit, I respected him.
