Yeah it's looking like injuries have severely derailed his career. Def has a chance to be an NHLer, but he's far from a sure thing. Jack Drury has clearly jumped him in the prospect ranking and Ponomarev is close.

You can't call yourself a canes fan unless you know what I'm talking about. Thanks for the upboat, though.
I hope the Canes do well, I like some of their players, their coach and the management style but I’m not a “fan” of the team.

what happened to him? i was highly on him, when he was playing in the OHL
i sincerely thought he was bigger and better version of his brother..

sure he is still young, only 22 but he has spent 2020 - 2023-24 in the AHL
no games in the NHL

115 games in the AHL, 0.50 ppg, disappointing numbers
only played 5 games in the AHL this season, no other games.

Any hope for him? that he'll become a regular NHL:er
- his contract ends after this season

Simple answer. He can't stay healthy. The eye injury may have affected his overall game as well, but he's been injured every year and even this year got injured in camp and was activated just a month ago.

He actually looked pretty good in camp and in the rookie showcase and I had hoped he was turning a corner, but then got injured again. I feel bad for the kid as he has skills and needs to stay healthy and get games under his belt.

thanx from the reply

oh, i forgot that eye injury

I don't know why the Hurricanes didn't trade him in previous years to try to acquire someone who would have helped them now. They've let an asset burn out

This is so random.

(1) He was a late 1st round pick. There wasn’t a lot value to extract to begin with.

(2) Prospects burning out as assets is typical. Clubs are trying to squeeze out an NHL player and they will generally give them the development time to get there. That goes for the most successful teams. Mark McNeil was in the background developing for Chicago when they won multiple cups. Derek Forbort for L.A. Derrick Pouliot for Pittsburgh. Even Cal Foote for Tampa, despite their YOLO approach.
