C/RW Maddox Fleming - Univ of Notre Dame, NCAA (2022 undrafted)

Has been playing much better hockey.
- and producing goals and points

Been ppg and over ppg for some time now.

Just 6 points shy of ppg avg now
after going 0.50 and worse.

some of his goals and points

good back hand pass

good redirect goal

heres a nice goal from him

Maddox is having a good, strong season for the Stampede.
- everything considered

Stampede, (19 W - 41 L), who are the 2nd worst team in the entire USHL
and have scored for, by far, the fewest goals in the USHL,
just 140 in 60 games (2.33 gpg) - 2nd worst Buccaneers; 163 goals for

Leads the team in points per game, assists, assists per game
- has 10-15 games less what most of his team mates

He has 33 points in 45 games, his 33 points ranks him 2nd
among Stampede players.

I know that his stock, ranking has plummeted,
from top 10 overall pick to 3rd round pick but..

His skill, talent, high hockey IQ, blazing speed,
solid two-way game, all that, has not
magically disappeared.

I think, he will be drafted somewhere in the
2nd and 3rd round, but in a redraft,...
i project him to go in top 10..., bold i know.
- but i have seen his game "too much", not to say that,
every time i see his full games, not just highlights,
Maddox to my eyes is just so good at hockey

We all get carried away from time to time. Fleming is just one of many prospects that were highly touted when super young and didn't live up the hype. So much changes from age 15/16 to draft day. The exceptions to that are few and far between.

Reactions: barriers
Honestly the passion over a guy like this is understandable when you see NHL teams like my Oilers taking 20-year-olds with 6 points in the NCAA. Much rather draft a player with Fleming's talent.

I'm pretty surprised he didn't get picked but the writing was on the wall he wouldn't go higher than say the 5th if he did get picked. He was an exciting prospect at 15 but he's been trending downward ever since, which isn't a recipe for success. He's talented but he's far too passive and his skill development has stalled. Had he stayed with the NTDP someone would have probably taken a flyer on him but when he left for Sioux City for a much bigger role and still wasn't very impressive, his stalled development was likely sealed in the minds of scouts.

He should’ve been drafted, maybe in the fifth or sixth round however maybe he’ll go as an overager in the future.

18 pages for the American version of Xavier Parent?
I see what you're trying to get at, but I think it's completely different. Parent wasn't drafted because he's 5'8. Fleming wasn't drafted because he did something to put himself in the NTDP doghouse, and they hold a lot of sway with NHL teams.

what ever dude, you are USA hockey supporter, also their National Team program,
you say what ever to back down your countries hockey programs doings.

Yawn. I find fault in USAH and the NTDP more than most, so take that garbage elsewhere. But there's no evidence Fleming was undone by them. He was a really talented 15 year old who hasn't progressed with his peer group. His major flaws are still there. Had he not been a really talented 15 year old, no one would be talking about him. It's time to give up your obsession on a player you started tracking because you were stat watching on EliteProspects - he's not very good.

Why would a USA hockey supporter unnecessarily trash talk an American prospect? Fleming wasn't drafted because he wasn't good last year. Also:

This you?

That’s not true. He was pretty good last year. He got no ice time at the NTDP. Can’t have a chance to be good or bad when you don’t play. When he moved to his current team he showed what he could do.

Great post. It happens all the time with kids that get hype at early ages.

I know it was just that both of them had really early hype that they both didn't live up to, not comparing them as players in any way, shape or form.
