I'm on the fence with this prospect. I'm just concerned if he was more the beneficiary of playing on a line with Matthews and Tkachuk, or if he would produce offence regardless of his linemates. :dunno:

Agreed

Big jump in production from u17 to u18.

How much was the "Matthews effect"and how much was him maturing as player.

Roslovic (and Tkachuk) benefitted from Matthews the same way Milano and Tuch benefitted from Eichel. Doesn't mean they aren't good or great prospects on their own, just that their production can not be looked at out of context. And that's where scouting becomes even more important.

The other part of this, is that i think the ability to play seamlessly with great players like that is also kind of a "skillset" in and of itself. Not all players can jump right in with guys like a Matthews and perfectly complement what he's doing without disrupting and getting in the way. It's not as though Roslovic is just standing around spectating while Matthews & Tkachuk do everything themselves - you've still gotta be able to process the game at a pretty high level to read off good players like that as smoothly as Roslovic does, moving the puck quickly, jumping into openings at the right moments like Roslovic seems to have a real knack for.

It's obviously not quite the same as being the "go to guy" on his line, but there's still quite a bit of apparent skill there and a pretty good hockey brain. It just makes it a bit tougher to get a thorough read on what Roslovic would look like away from that dynamic duo at this point. And it kind of puts an *asterisk beside his point totals. A challenge for scouts...but i think it's pretty lazy to completely write him off as purely the product of those other two.

I don't think anyone was writing him off - just questioning if he was a first rounder.

In my mind no - 2nd or 3rd round in my book - but that's just one guys opinion.

Once relegated to a support role on the National Team Development Program, Roslovic changed his fortunes by being less passive and far more the hunter rather than the hunted. Blessed with excellent straightaway speed and playmaking abilities, his proficiency at scoring goals was showcased on a nightly basis. His bread and butter is passing the puck, which for a while was all he did. Now we know he can not only wire it, but be elusiveness enough to find those areas where the probability of scoring multiplies. Roslovic has an excellent release and requires little backswing to get velocity on his shots. If he fills out more, he can be classified as a competitive power forward who can do a ton of damage off the forecheck since he has excellent vision and passing abilities.

Only thing (literally) that worries me about this kid is that is took a stern talk and a subsequent assignment alongside Auston Matthews to start being decisive about goal scoring. He put up such ridiculous numbers that you wonder what his output would have been without him. Well, we kinda know (1 goal in first 16 games).

No way he gets past Columbus in the early 2nd round. They have picks to burn and could use the local angle for publicity, which they dont get in Buckeyes territory.

This should not worry you but excite you about this prospect. It means that they are coachable. That they can change for the positive. In fact, if all it took was one stern talk, then to me that is an extremely positive indicator of his desire to be better, his maturity, and his ability to use his intellectual capacities to control how he plays on the ice.

Well you were right about the 25th

Yes , I felt , heard he was not going to be there after round one . I really like the kid and although not really into having teams go local , I thought this scenario fit on a pure hockey sense and that CBJ had three 2nd rounders.

Winnipeg went USHL twice and this is something I also said I thought was possible , that we would get two players from there with our first three picks . Now just maybe we get Walt's kid next year and get our kind of hometown connection ;)

Lots of mocks were saying "Winnipeg likes WHL" players , I said I felt , heard they liked several players fromthe USHL this year . Honestly never ever thought Connor would last till 17 . Beyond thrilled to get him there , would have contemplated moving up for him. He's going to be great to partner with Ehlers in the future.

We were also surprised Connor Was still there at 17 and had talked about what we'd be willing to give to move up to 13ish to get him.

We're pretty big fans of Roslovic too. There may have been one or two players we liked more, but these numbers undersell him (there are some issues accounting for USNTDP players) so he's probably even higher then this.

I know PCS cohorts like Roslovic a lot too. All in all, very happy with the Jets draft.

Not a huge fan of this pick TBH, especially with guys like Sprong, Kylington, etc still available, but late 1st rounders rarely make a big impact in the NHL anyways.

I think it's a great pick. Much safer pick than either Sprong or Kylington while still having a lot of upside. Real solid pick, Roslovic is good.

Totally agree , love the pick , and drafting the other mentioned players at this spot is not a Winnipeg blueprint .

Jets draft well , very well , no need to fix what is not broken .

Roslovic off to a nice start in his freshman season. 3g 2a in his first 4 games including a beauty goal tonight.

Both of Jack Roslovic's goals this weekend were game-winning goals. Clutch.]

I was at the Ohio State game in Columbus, Roslovic was really unimpressive until his GWG. He was floating around out there, shied away from contact, and didn't really touch the puck much at all until the 3rd period.

His GWG was a nice hard shot though I'll give him that. Put it in with just over a minute left and silenced the crowd.
