C Philip Tomasino - Niagara Icedogs, OHL (2019, 24th, NSH)

Worth noting that Boldy hasn’t really “upped his play” lately. He was still playing this well through the start of the season, it’s just that for whatever reason the points didn’t come then as they do now.

The last handful (3-5) of games they’ve put him with Newhook too which is an astronomical improvement over McBain and McPhee.

Points didn't come because he was being utilized as a center when he is a natural winger. He was getting chances as a center, but started really kicking it into high gear when they moved him to the wing.

He wasn’t a center for that long. They moved him to wing with McBain and McPhee and he was still generating the same chances.

The C vs LW thing is overblown in his case.

They both have come close and they have the talent to. They clearly don't want to though.

If Tomasino is a number 1 centre then neither of them will stop him from getting there. Contrasting to say a Morgan Frost who has larger road blocks at C.

Tomansino's done everything right so far, looking forward to seeing what he tops out as.

Of course, the sky is limit for him if he works hard enough, I just realistically think he becomes that level of player (with a better season-round effort), but I can see him potentially exceeding that of what the aforementioned players have become today. I prefer to temper my expectations.

i Don’t think C or LW matters much. His C abilities can still be utilized from the wing or on a line splitting C duties. There’s other guys in the league that fit this mold.

Reminds me of Elias, Lindholm, JT Miller or Wheeler in that regard.

What's the rush? Let him develop this year; he's 19 and has played 16 games against men in his life. He'll get a crack at making the team next year.
In Nashville we've already had so many guys step up, so many other of our AHL players have also produced so well that we really have no reason to push Tomasino into the lineup. Even with all the injuries we've had, there are just so many older players who have shown themselves to be ready for a look as well. Tomasino can get his chance next year. Maybe a courtesy game or two before that, but certainly there's no motivation to burn an ELC year playing him down the stretch. His time will come.

This year feels like a blessing in disguise for guys like Tomasino/Kailyev/Harley/McMichael. Guys that were clearly to good for the OHL, but not quite NHL level yet. Instead they get to develop in the AHL and you can see how much they’ve all grown this season

Last 7 games, 5 goals and 4 assists
Last 12 games, 6 goals, 10 assists

I think he is playing in the wrong league,
He is playing great in the AHL, but he's not dominating to the point that he MUST be called up. Consider, too, that Nashville is fighting for a playoff spot and they are unlikely to give Tomasino more than 4th line minutes. From a development perspective, I'd rather see him getting Top-6 minutes/PP time in AHL for the next couple weeks until the season ends, then call him up.

Nashville had a perfect opportunity to give him a few games when Forsberg, Tolvanen Arvidsson Johansen and Duchene were all out at or around the same time. The fact that he hasn't gotten a game in should tell you that he probably won't get a game this year unless there's no other option.

Chicago is basically a lock for the AHL playoffs, and they’ll likely be there a while. I wouldn’t expect to see him until next season.

If you are at or above a point/G in the AHL as a 19 year old rookie, then yes, you are in fact dominating. He's 24pts in 22 games, a +17 with 36 PIMs, what else do you want him to do? He should get at least a few games and should be full time third line in October, the kid is a beast. Top 10 in any redraft.

You're omitting the second half of what I said. I didn't say he wasn't dominating.

And it's not that I want him to do more, I just want him to keep doing this because he's missed so much playing time this year already. What's wrong with letting him do this for a couple more weeks? When the AHL season wraps up, call him up to The Show. Being a top gun in the AHL is way better for his development than riding the pine or being on the taxi squad in the NHL.

And the part in bold? I agree 100%
