I was going to give this thread a bump to mention his strong play recently as well. When I've seem him over the year I've liked his skill set though he really seemed to need some work on his skating. Hopefully the strong end to this season will lead to a strong year next year and he can play his way back into first round draft consideration for 2017.

Still 2 years to go before his draft so he has plenty of time to mature and develope his game. I am thinking he might actually jump to the Whl next season...no real reason to say this but it might do hom well considering his draft is two years away and learning that league now would benefit him prior to his draft year...good kid who has tons of talent...time for him to step up as the u17 team getting brought in next year is already insane with talent.

You've seen him more than I have but he reminds me of another late birthday with the NTDP in Matt Tkachuk. Both had very similar U17 seasons statistically and both clearly needed to focus on their skating heading into their U18 season. What do you think? Tkachuk's skating is noticeably better this year and he's had an amazing season. A similar trajectory for Khodorenko would be ideal.

I actually like Khodorenko more than I liked Tkachuk last season. Tkachuk really seemed to benefit from his physical development over the summer and the chemistry he developed with Matthews this season. I'll be very curious to see how Tkachuk does next season without Matthews.

Khodorenko seems to be a bit more advanced physically this year than Tkachuk was last year which could be a mark against him but I like his skill set more. He's got some really nice hands and if he just had a bit more speed to beat defenders I think he could really do some damage. Perhaps if Max Jones stays with the NTDP and plays on his wing he'll be able to put up some big numbers next season but I'm hoping for at least a point-per-game pace either way.

I knew there was some Everett draftee I forgot about when thinking about their lineup next year. Matthews, Jost and Khodorenko could be pretty huge reinforcements for the Silvertips. I wonder if it's in the best of Khodorenkos interests to play second fiddle to Matthews in Everett though (if Matthews goes there, that is). Wouldn't he be better served staying with NTDP one more year and perhaps moving onto Everett for his draft season instead?

I think that's not unlikely, especially as a late birthday it gives him that flexibility. But his U17 coach who a lot of people liked (John Gruden) just left NTDP for Flint of the OHL, so that may also factor in if he doesn't love whoever they bring in also.

Gruden coached and was responsible for the defencemen at NTDP not the forwards.

Simply hasn´t developed as many had hoped. It happens. He still has time to find his game, but, right now, he might not even get drafted. A couple of years ago he was thought of as the top player of his class year.

What the **** are you talking about? He's not even eligible this year and he's doing fine...

Yes, you´re right about his eligibility. My overall point is he simply hasn´t developed as had hope. Like I said before, he has lots of time but he has been disappointing so far. It will be interesting to see where he plays next year (I assume WHL). IMO he will need a breakout season to go high in the draft as expected.

That's a bit of a backtrack after saying in your first post that he might not even be drafted at all.

Not trying to backtrack. I really wouldn´t be suprised if he goes undrafted. He needs to start showing more because lots of Americans have passed him and not everyone will be drafted.

Where is he expected to be drafted? 4 points in 9 games with Michigan State so far.

I was watching one of the Spartans' games recently and it appeared he wasn't really hungry to attack the puck. When he gets it, it's clear that he has some good skills and skating ability along along with hockey smarts.

Has 1st round skills but I'm not sure if he gets picked there.

Did not get drafted, I thought someone would take him in mid-late rounds.

Any scouting report on this kid?
Overall very solid, pretty well-rounded prospect who I think could be C or W (probably lean towards W at pro level), the thing that really stood out to me over the years is his ability to create high quality scoring chances whether for himself or his teammates and to finish them. I'm not sold he's going to be a guy who sticks in the NHL but he has a chance

What do you think about his skating? That’s long been the knock on him. I’ve only seen him a few times in college hockey, so I haven’t seen enough to comment on if that will hold him back as much as it’s discussed.
