Prospect Info: C Noah Ostlund, 16th Overall, 2022 NHL Draft — recalled to Buffalo 4/4/25

How is Ostlund looking? He had 1 point in 10 games now 7 points since coming back from the injury.

Haven't watched any games....

He's getting reps as 1C with Rosen a lot (and both Wahlberg and Murray, but also Rousek in place of Rosen). Things are starting to align - looks like he's figuring out the narrower rink size and having less space/time to make plays. He still looks like he's made out of a pipe cleaner and that's going to take a while to overcome. Most of his scoring is coming on the PP which isn't necessarily bad - Rochester was bottom third of the league in PP% going into this last stretch where they have six PP goals over four games (two three goal and two no goal performances). He's been a part of that. It hasn't hurt that Rosen is starting to really hum and he's getting ES time with Rosen, as well as PP time too.

The good part is that Ostlund has been productive for about a month. The bad part is Helenius' offense has dried up in that same time.

How's Ostlund looking? I don't watch the Amerks games only highlights and stats. He has 21 points in 22 games since returning.

For people who watch games how is his progress? Do you see another year in the AHL next year? How is his two-way game?

I thought we got the best swede out of Ostlund Lekkermaki and Ohgren. Was starting to worry after his start but things looking better.

Feels like a nice progression from his first few games this year where he looked a pace slow and then of course the hand injury/surgery took him out of lineup. I don't see any glaring defensive issues and his offensive game has come along nicely. Still needs time and bulk - a lot of his scoring totals are coming on the powerplay compared to Helenius, Wahlberg or even Fiddler-Schultz who as rookies have a better pts/game by a few ticks at the moment.

I love what Ostlund bring we don't really have that on the roster. Would love to see him be a defensively responsible 1-2C playmaking center in the NHL.

Swedes have made a living in the NHL off of being defensively responsible 2-way centers. Hopefully his offense translates at the NHL level.

Fully expect and want the Kulich path for him next year. Starts in Rochester even though he can easily play in the NHL. Gets a callup and sticks at some point. We need to use him as overqualified depth

It will be yet another over-typical front office fark up to force Ostlund into the Sabres line-up next season. JFC like there aren't already enough examples of pushing young and physically weak guys up just because the current roster is weak and KA is over-relying on a "youth movement".

Ostlund needs to reach his man size and strength before becoming a Sabre, regardless of his skill. It's not like he's lighting it up and just can't be denied an NHL job. Let's wait until he can handle NHL physicality and lack of open ice, and not torpedo his confidence by making him pull splinters from his mouth every other night.

Kulich was two full years in the AHL before he earned his games this year. Ostlund is just finishing his first season and really only his first half of a good season - didn't start well, then missed two months with the hand surgery. He doesn't need to be up next fall. If he makes it, great, but they shouldn't be planning around him being up.

He needs to put on some weight. We saw Kulich get trucked and Kulich is 20lbs heavier than Ostlund. Ostlund is listed as 170-175 depending on what site you look at. I am sure he will be in the gym this summer.
