If he played for the Leafs he'd be getting superstar talk right now, warranted or not.

If it isn't warranted it will be soon. Youngest player in the league playing a 200 foot game as a 1C?

It is impressive. Also way more then most thought he could do at any point in his career. Nevermind as a rookie.

I think anyone who really watched Hischier in Halifax last year knew what type of potential he had. He’s got great vision in the offensive zone, he’s a really really smart player and extremely creative with the puck on his stick. He never quits on a play and was solid defensively for the Mooseheads last year and obviously just kept improving as the season went on. You could see that with his hockey sense, work ethic and commitment to both ends of the ice that he could become a strong 200 foot player. The biggest concern with the kid was his size and if it would impact him (being able to put on weight and keep his skill set) when he moves to the next level to play against men. Coming out of the draft I had him profiled as 70 point #1C that play a strong two-way game.

After having watched him so far this season, I’ve been really impressed with just how quickly he’s made the jump to a legit top 6 NHL forward. It’s always hard to play in the NHL as a rookie and even harder when you’re 18. He 100% looks the part of a future elite #1C at only 18. The sky is the limit for Nico!

I think this off season he really needs to spend time not only adding a little bit of mass but working on his shot. Only qualm I have about his game is his finishing ability right now. albeit, he has been blantantly robbed a few times. I think there is room for improvement on his shot tho which will go a long way in making him an elite player

Its definitely important... look at Mitch Marner right now.

hes going to be great... kid is improving game by game. conditioning is better, confidence is higher, and hes displaying much more skill. does just about every little thing right. has an insane work ethic and joy for the game and competition. not too mention, plays bigger in bigger games. he is already a complete player but hes not even close to the best version of himself. top 3 center in the future.

More than the points, he's just so much stronger than he was early on. He doesn't have any issue with body pressure anymore and his two way game is rounding out. Up to +7 after tonight.

Really only needs to work on faceoffs now. He's playing like a 1C already and he's just going to get better.

Even the faceoffs are getting better. I was watching him beat Giroux a few times the other night and in critically situations too.

His faceoffs have gotten a lot better. That is always something he can work on and will get better on with time. Crosby struggled with it as well coming into the league. With time, Nico will get better.

Surprised no one posted his snipe last night yet. I would if I knew how.

Kid is a star in the making. He's getting the accolades all over from pundits and just has to keep the course. Can't wait to see what he'll be when he adds more muscle. He's not getting knocked off the puck as easily anymore like he was in the beginning and his conditioning is far better than it was earlier too.

Flyers fan here -- I love Nico. He's just so smooth and silky. Haynes did a good job getting him away from the checking of Couturier (who should be right up there as the Selke winner this season) during much of Tuesday's game. The previous game in Philly, Couts shut him down for the most part. His goal in that game was scored when Couts wasn't out on the ice. IIRC. I think it was mentioned earlier, but he's got to figure out the tight level checking in the NHL, which by all indications he's doing already. Really fun to watch. Going to be a stud player.

He had a real sneaky stutter step move to get by Faulk which led to Palmieri's goal. He's really turned it on lately when the games are starting to matter more and more.

That move is around 4:58

Getting better and better already. No clue what his ceiling is but it seems to get higher every few months with this kid over the past 2 years. He is a completely separate talent from the rest of his draft class, should have been the absolute consensus #1 pick. Thank god NJ didn’t f*** it up.
