Just scored a pretty SHG from Drouin against the Rocket.
He and Drouin are looking dangerous on the PK so far.

Well I said I wasn't going to put too much weight on this game, but damn! Hard to ignore a goal like that. 3rd shorthanded goal of the year already for the Moose. MacKinnon finishes this one off from Drouin.

Summary:

Mack finishes the game with 2 goals and 2 assists for 4 points.
Drouin finishes the game with 1 goal and 4 assists for 5 points.

Both respectively have 5 and 7 points in 2 games.

2 of MacKinnon's 3 goals this season are one-timers. One of his goals in the gold medal game at the Ivan Hlinka was also a one-timer. All from the same side and all look almost identical. He didn't use the one-timer that much last season but hopefully he can stay hot from that "Stamkos region"

Just out of curiosity, how'd you find that video?
It doesn't seem to show up normally when browsing for videos on the site..

It was a link at the bottom of the game summary/news headline (on the Q home page):

Another play I really liked by Mackinnon was right after his slapper goal (1:20) he's fed the puck by Drouin alone right in front. Instead of trying to finish for a hat trick, in a game that's already a blow-out, he waits and feeds Fournier for his 1st goal of the season. I don't want to make too much out of it, but that was certainly a high character type of play. Then again maybe hatties don't mean much anymore after you've put up a 5'er as a rookie ;)

Who is this Drouin kid? I see him putting up great points but havnt really heard much about him. Really good or living off of Nathan?

Really, really good. Only knock is size imo and he can still grow. And maybe that he's not C, though I think he's played some games at C? Excellent hockey sense.

Really good, statistically about the same size as Nathan but looks more wiry. In fact, if U watch a whole game it is more like the Jonathan Drouin show than the Nathan MacKinnon show. He is all over the ice - has the passing ability of an Alex Tanguay with the darting ability of a Jeff Skinner, has a real quick release on a hard wrister. A very good skater but Nathan has that extra passing gear that almost no one else has combined with that Steven Stamkos like one timer and shot is why he will likely compete for the Rocket Richard trophy one day. Passing, however, is Jonathan's forte. Expect big numbers from him this year as he combines very well with Nathan and the new guy, 20 yr old Stephan Fournier, who appears to be a good 3rd man - maturity, grit and likes to screen the goalie.

This really is kind of true. But the beauty of MacKinnon's game is that he executes, and makes every play look simple and easy; perfect little dump off passes in heavy traffic, pucks that get through bodies/sticks to linemates, etc. I don't think Drouin is really anywhere near MacKinnon's level of polish (or vision, or "hockey sense"), but you can't get distracted and leave him unchecked because he can make the spectacular happen. Last year's playoffs was just the coming out party.

picked 1 and 2 the year they were eligible for the Q draft...

they are a dynamic duo... Drouin the slick puck handler that oozes skill and MacKinnon the lightning fast slasher that only needs a half-a-step before he's by his man and driving the net.

MacKinnon reminds me of a young Roenick (although less abrasive) and Drouin sort of a D.Savard waterbug.

MacKinnon's going to be a great player for sure. He has the ability to be the best #1 pick since Stamkos. Good to see all these players coming out of Atlantic Canada.

I don't get why people are already putting Drouin on Nathan's level after a couple games. Mackinnon wasn't exactly 100% to start the season aswell.

Well he was almost on Nate's level in the playoffs but yes, Nate has been extremely sick, 90 percent of the team has been.

Last playoffs in 17 games Mackinnon and Drouin were equally dominant, posting 28 and 26 points respectively. Add on Drouin's amazing start and people are starting to take notice of his off the charts hands and hockey iq.

Drouin's hockey sense and IQ are ahead of MacKinnon, no doubt. But overall he's not as good... But still amazing, ever since last playoffs. His hands have been unreal, and he's picked up speed. Size was a concern, and still needs to grow... But he's at 5'11, 190 now.

It was an incredible draft. If MacKinnon wasn't in the draft, Drouin was considered far and away the best player available.

Not far and away. Duclair was the favorite to go 2nd for most of the season and some still considered him better than drouin at the time of the draft. Duclair made the quebec world u17 team along with gregoire that year and drouin got cut.

Ironically... Cole Harbour`s MacKinnon plays more like Ovechkin than Crosby, with explosive speed and heavy shot, whereas Drouin plays more like Cole Harbour`s Crosby with his shifty skating and great vision.

For all the Crosby/MacKinnon talk, Drouin is much closer to Crosby`s style.

MacKinnon is the guy that, as its been said, can explode through the zones and leave guys in his dust... while also having a nice playmaking aspect to his game too. He isn`t just an individual rusher type guy.

Where Drouin is the shifty, run the offense type player, he is often more noticeable than MacKinnon who is more a drive the puck to the net force.
