C Mikhail Grigorenko - Quebec Remparts, QMJHL (2012 draft) III

I don't think he will ever get close to 100pts a year but Grigorenko will have very similar stat lines to Henrik Sedin. He may go 15-65-80 one year and 30-50-80 the next year. His passing is already at an elite all world level but he has the capability to chip in goals if that is what his team needs. I see him often compared to Joe Thornton but Thornton is a consistent 20 goal as well, something I'm not sure Grigs will ever look to be hence the Sedin comparison (statistically).

Those passes make me drool. That touch is incredible. And whats even better is the fact the he is 6'3 and not 5'11.

I disagree with the Sedin comparison. Unlike Henrik, Mikhail does not mind shooting at all, and his shot is deadly.

I never compared him to Henrik in terms of style. I compared his stat line to him. As in I think he will have a very high assist to goal ratio with a few "high goal" years sprinkled in because he does have the ability to score.
 
Overall, I was happy with his performance last night. I still think he was a touch late getting back on defense before his goal--which is why he was so easily able to join the odd-man rush after MacKinnon's drop pass failed--but the good far outweighed the bad. I'm looking forward to seeing him against the OHL and WHL, where the teams will try to be much more physical with him.

He won't be playing in those games, unfortunately.

I thought the Russians who played in the Q only play in the games against the Q, and same went with the O and W?

But that's exactly what I mean. The difference between Grigorenko and Sedin is that if Grigs does achieve his potential, then I see a consistent 30-goal scorer who chips in 50 to 60 assists. Henrik's goal/assist ratio is far more uneven.

I doubt he'll regularly pot 30. Centers who put up those kind of goal numbers are exceedingly rare. If he hits his potential, I could see a few peak years where he gets that, but otherwise I'd expect a 20-25 goal scorer who puts up 50+ assists.
 
This guy is gonna be a elite center, good chance to be better than yakupov.

Hes just a perfect player.

They might. I just can't fault them for picking Forsberg over him though. There were doubts about Grigorenko, and I think most people would've picked Forsberg in that spot.

You could say the same thing about Anaheim too, but I'm pretty happy with Lindholm so far...we'll see what ends up happening...
 
Just heard an interview with Patrick Roy, Grigo's coach with the Remparts. Roy spoke with Darcy Regier about a month ago and Roy was told there was a 75% chance Grigorenko would stick with Buffalo is there's an NHL season.

Not a big fan of rushing him onto our team. With the amount of young centers we have, we would be setting ourselves up for a lottery pick next year for sure. Ennis/Hodgson/Grigs/Ott/Girgs is certainly not looking to enticing. Hell if there was ever a year to tank it would be this year since we are not really in a position to compete until next year. :laugh:

Going 12th overall is hardly being killed. I think most of us would take it any day.

As for the media, they didn't cause him to disappear at times last year, or during the Summit Series in August, where he was absolutely invisible against much better competition than he faced Monday night. I think people are getting carried away over this guy. He might turn out well and he might not. There are still major questions about his compete level.

Exactly. but I wonder if it was thanks to the typical anti-Canadian stereotype in the Canadian press which caused a Canadian Sean Couturier to fall from 1 to 8 in his draft year. Can't quite figure that out. I think for now based on what I saw in the august summit Series 12 was the right number...It will take 4 to 5 years before any of us know if the scouts were right or wrong.

Could just be a case of being "too good" combined with medical probs though, looking at him and hearing from him I have a feeling his compete level will go up when he's being challenged.
I think like the Sedins he will be a great regular season player, the question is, as with the twins or Nick Bäckström for that matter, whether he can step it up when the pace and intensity goes up during the play offs.
We'll see, too early and so on, but an intriguing prospect none the less.
 
If Grigorenko comes to camp and impresses then he will be on the Sabres this season, if he doesnt then he will be returned to the Quebec Remparts on the QMJHL where he can continue to grow as a player and hopefully make the team in 2013.

He's improved a lot since Sept. I think he's ready. ENNIS,HODGSON(BEEN GREAT IN ROCH) Grigorenko, let's roll
