After digging a bit deeper, he actually had virtually the same amount of ES points as Nylander and the same amount of shots. The difference was the PP, which is obviously a skill but McLeod plays the more important position and is the much superior defensive player

Another terrible pick by the Devils. Just what we need, more guys with poor offensive IQ. Honestly I'm losing confidence in this team's ability to draft. Leaving Brown on the board for McLeod is just beyond stupid.

To think we could have had Barzal and Brown down the middle for years.

Ouch. Was worried that the Devils were going to land one of the elite offensive talents in the draft but the board played awful for them. Would rather have Brown than McLeod...but McLeod should be a NHLer just not sure on his offensive upside.

Brown is not what the Devils want or need, and Mcleod will be far better in is league than Brown.

great pick by the Devils, will be the steal of the top 15

NJ worked with what they had... All the good elite potential guys were taken and there were only D prospects which they don't need, they are taking forwards every year for a while unless something generational comes along on D.

They took the safer pick in a guy who looks like a 2nd line C than Brown who might be a bottom 6er or bust, or any other boom or bust type picks.

Only part I didn't like was them moving him for him. Probably could have stood pat.

No elite offensive talent was left on the board, so there was nothing wrong with this pick. For what was available, he was the best fit.

Yeah, another questionable pick for sure. Not sure why Devils keep going for these guys. You'd think a team finishing last in GF would want to take the guy with the highest offensive ceiling, instead they go with McLeod (and Zacha last year). Hmm..

he was the best player on the ice for any steelheads game I went to last season. (about 10)

big time work horse, always on all cylinders..

you will be happy taking mike!

Thanks for the encouragement. FWIW, Brock Otten thinks McLeod has 50 pt, Selke potential. Sign me up for that. His floor seems to be a good 3C and his ceiling an elite 2C.

The Zacha pick was fine and I think will turn out well. This pick...can't say I'm not disappointed. I would rather have kept 11 and drafted Brown or taken Bellows here.

Always going with the "safe" pick is getting pretty frustrating .

The chances of Brown being Brian Boyle are greater than him being Joe Thornton. It's not like they are giving up much size with McLeod in comparison, he's 6'2 with elite skating. After Keller went early and Chychrun kept falling we weren't going to end up with someone in that top tier.

The chances of Brown being a 1st line center >> McLeod being a 1st line center. We needed a potential first line center, not another middle six center.

Sounds like you guys just draft Zajac 2.0

Which is fine, as Zajac is a very good player. He's not a game breaker or anything, but the kind of guy who is elite defensively and does everything well. Type of player that is great to have on the team.

McLeod has a better chance at actually being a good NHLer. Brown has the small possibility that he turns into a first line center, but he has a lot of warts and is ranked so high partially for his size.

Yeah, for sure. But the last time the Devils took a legitimate high risk boom/bust pick was probably 8 years ago with Tedenby. Yeah, that didn't work out. But lower ceiling "safe" picks year after year can only get this team so far.

The only way we're picking a guy that is a projected game breaker on draft day is to have a top 3-5 pick. Otherwise, you pick who you think has the best skill set. Sometimes those guys don't reach their potential, sometimes they do, and sometimes they exceed their potential.

People get far too emotional about picks on draft day, as the consequences of a draft aren't really know for years.

Talking specifically about Brown.

"Valve Corporation, the suit says, "knowingly allowed ... and has been complicit in creating, sustaining and facilitating [a] market" where players and third-parties trade weapon skins like casino chips.

The lawsuit filed on behalf of Connecticut resident Michael John McLeod alleges that Valve and third-party sites (CSGO Diamonds, CSGO Lounge and OPSkins) "knowingly allowed, supported, and/or sponsored illegal gambling by allowing millions of Americans to link their individual Steam accounts to third- party websites." Through those websites, the suit says, skins for CS:GO, which can be purchased from Valve, "can ... easily be traded and used as collateral for bets."

I doubt it's him, but still funny stuff.

Talking specifically about Brown.

That's my point though, it's not reasonable to expect Brown to turn into a first line game breaking center. The potential is there, but when drafting at this spot it's hardly an expectation. The Devils picked someone who fits their organizational philosophy far more than Brown does.
